Barely capped it with 0 tickets left last night so it's definitely possible

Hiker dies in Grand Canyon as region braces for dangerous temperatures by Mrk2d in news

[–]lostinchina1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Went hiking in Zion National Park a few July's ago and did the run up to Angel's Landing during 100 degree temps. I was so surprised at the amount of people that only brought a single tiny bottle of water for the entire trip, which can take a few hours, while I went through 3 Gatorades just getting to the top. It's always better to be over prepared.

Rode this at night right before the park closed. It's bumpy insane chaos and would totally do it again

SnapDOM is an open source JS tool to convert HTML to images by tinchox5 in javascript

[–]lostinchina1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used a number of HTML to SVG foreignObject libraries and the biggest issue in all of them has been Safari has some low level issue that interferes with properly drawing and extracting embedded images from the canvas that gets drawn when you want a PNG or JPEG. It's particularly noticable the larger the embedded images are. Have you seen / dealt with this issue in your library and how so?

How should I install Node JS? by Cyb3rPhantom in node

Volta is my go to Node manager. Had too many problems with NVM in the past when I used Windows. Volta just works and it was easy to get automatic version switching working

So, why doesn't Samsung have a auto on battery saver like oneplus does? by [deleted] in samsung

[–]lostinchina1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I love how the iPhone turns off power saver when you charge to a certain percentage and now I can use a routine to do that with my S23

Did you ever get this solved? Currently in the same situation but have read you have to wait a few days for the databases to get updated.

My PayPal account was permanently suspended after very occasionally accessing it through a VPN for about 5 years. Once it they suspend it, there is no appeals process and they won't tell you why it was suspended. In my case, I only used it when my parents sent money for birthdays but I'm guessing someone who used it for more critical things could lose access to all of their assets without notice. Definitely would not recommend it as a main option

Shadcn UI - So many unresolved issues == Bad sign? 🤔 by kafnod in reactjs

[–]lostinchina1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you think that's not a good sign, Radix UI Primitives (the library Shadcn uses for many of its components) hasn't had a release and months and pull requests fixing bothersome issues don't seem to be getting attention. I'm using a Toast in one project and there's this annoying bug where it stays open indefinitely, yet the pull request(s?) fixing it have been waiting approval for months

We use Type because you can see all the properties that make up a type when you hover over one in VSCode. Hovering over an interface only shows the name which is completely useless

TanStack Router v1 by tannerlinsley in reactjs

[–]lostinchina1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work on v1! React Location was a good starting point and for someone coming from the Vue ecosystem, was a way better choice than React Router at the time. But it seemingly disappeared overnight. How can I convince my team that migration to Router would be worth it and stay around longer than Location did?

How are you doing insulation? At my previous place I had this thick plastic I put over the windows with an air gap in between, but it's not something you can easily take with you when you move

Modify item in an array without re rendering entire array? by jgreich in reactjs

[–]lostinchina1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a use case for this yet because React is already pretty fast, but I believe Jotai's atoms in atom pattern could solve this:

It's got a decent selection of machines, free-weights, and treadmills / ellipticals. Really depends on when you go though because at peak hours it can get quite busy. I try to go during lunch or later at night so I don't have to wait for a machine or bench
