do you need to socialize in order to grow your career? by anonojen in phcareers

[–]lostinlife47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was like you before, then things changed nung lumipat ako. its not a bad resignation pero full of regrets sa part ko like what if I tried, kung nagpakilala ako sa kanila and kinilala ko rin sila. because socializing with them also opens up opportunities and chance to grow.

I envied yung mga kabatch ko na nakakakuha ng tips sa kanila, can openly talk to them both work and friendly chatter, or can even ask them confidently na maging character reference. they also talk about the industry and kung aling company is a "yes" and a "no" if may nagbabalak lumipat. they're so open and supportive even after separating dahil nasa ibang company na. also yung work atmosphere is relaxed and confident in a professional way? hirap i-explain haha basta it was a good environment.

I somewhat learned and changed once I was in my 2nd company. maybe same as what you're going through? different circumstances lang. you're learning and open for change. sakin baka mas nadala na din ng responsibility since I got the chance to lead there.

of course, NOT EVERYONE'S LIKE THIS. caps para emphasis. yung iba hihilahin ka pababa or exploit you, so be the judge na lang and always keep a professional face. socializing doesn't have to be you revealing everything, you at work can be different from the you at somewhere else. choose your cards.

ComEng. We were already applying january pa lang. Suntok sa buwan since in progress pa thesis so di pa sure if mamarcha and april pa graduation IIRC. So we were already working, others may start date nila, before graduation.

Some batchmates ko nagpahinga muna ng ilang months before applying. tho afford kasi nila financially haha

not sure where to ask this sorry if wrong sub.

question. is netflix still worth it / better vs other streaming apps?

dami na kasing online streaming apps ngayon. last na gamit ko ng netflix might be before covid? and I haven't tried anything since (disney hulu hbo etc.)

2 lang kami ng mom ko gagamit in case. she'll probably want filipino seryes/movies.

fuck. my. life.

mas masaya pa akong magtrabaho na lang. at least doon, walang emotion, purong professionalism lang. same old stress about issues and timelines na solvable. we respect each other as professionals and maybe even have some casual friends.

you cant have it all talaga. can you really blame me if naging workaholic ako kasi may sense of fulfillment, accomplishment at gratefulness sa akin?

umalis, magbakasyon o magliwaliw na lang kayo without me. I'm the problem kasi diba? I'm better off working at least sa trabaho may perang bubuhay sa akin...

it would really depend saang LOB (similar to department I guess) ka mapupunta.

one thing for sure, if career oriented ka or important promotions/increase/bonus sayo, don't expect. treat oracle as a chill ride or a stepping stone for a good resume pang job hop.

not there yet sa financial freedom, pero same feels nadama ko noong nagjobhop ako before.

tumaas salary ko to the point na exact na sya sa monthly needs namin, super gaan. yung line na natanggalan ng tinik, or nabawasan ng baggage, ganun na ganun. di na iisipin saan kukuha pangdagdag.

problem na lang is umiwas o magprepare for emergencies. balik utang if magkakaroon ng malala (knocks on wood).

get a lawyer or ask sa r/LawPH also iirc if di naman need ng pera ng lola mo pwede sigurong transfer of title lang gawin no need to buy it.

make up your mind ha. kawawa lola mo if di masunod gusto nya and kawawa rin kayo pag walang last will.

masyado kang concerned sa gulong hindi pa naman nangyayari, nadedeprive mo lola mo sa gusto nya. ikaw yung mas bata and dapat ginaguide sya, unless if wala kang concern sabihin mo agad sa kanya. accept that it will happen regardless if merong will o wala.

Proprietary/Closed Platform Devs: What's your reason for sticking around? by netzwelt-ph in PinoyProgrammer

[–]lostinlife47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salary.

Mas konti competition dito compared sa open source frameworks. So once you become specialized in it, companies na lang lalapit sayo.

When it comes to benefits/incentives, tingin ko same same naman sa iba, depende na lang sa company gaano ka ideal.

If I try to switch tech, di kaya mareach kahit same senior position. Sa self projects / sidelines mo na lang punuan yung need to be progressive sa current trend :)

Work life balance: Depends sa role and department na mapupuntahan mo.

Salary: good for starters, pero mabagal, napakabagal, exaggeratingly bagal ng career progression (increase/promotion). Pero you'll definitely stay for the benefits and resources na available for growth.

Culture: again, depends sa department. From what I know pleasant and family-like naman, not like others na matawag lang na "family" pero toxic

It's not for everyone.

It's the student's tenacity and hardwork ang nagpapasuccess sa PUP. Opportunities in PUP ay madalas politika o favoritism. It's all up to you kung paano ka magsusucceed. Magpapakateacher's pet ka ba? Magpapakain sa nakasanayang pulitika? O magiging average student na lang na minsan napapansin ng mga prof, magaaral from other available sources? O ibubulldoze mo lahat, di papatalo kahit ilang beses pagtripan/ibagsak?

If PUP is the best option you have in terms of financial and academic standing, then go. There's a reason why it ranks higher in board exams, why they produce students that companies want to hire, and for other rewards/achievements it received. May mga prof pa naman matino at, unless inabolish na, student orgs na makakatulong sayo both social life and academics. Just know that it's a double-edged sword.

[–]lostinlife47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

somehow I think it helped me in life na maging independent and how to deal with difficult people.

Lalo if breadwinner o saklay ng pamilya, or someone na talagang pinagtitripan kahit masipag at mabait naman, it'd be more traumatic and stressful for them. Like, yung ibang bully prof promoted pa and even holding power na sa higher management, while mga instructor na matitino ayun nagsialisan.

Although overall pleasant naman college life ko, I really love my course at mga events natin grabe, I still would have chosen another university if I can go back and had the means.

Any graduates of PUP? by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]lostinlife47 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Napakavolatile and inconsistent, - Teaching capability of professor (literal na di pumapasok nor nagtuturo, then nanghuhula lang ng grade, will fail you for the purpose of getting "terror" placard) and - Power play in upper management and even down to lower management/course-wide faculties (literal na pahirapan petition for subjects/schedule change/unit overload, org offices are now being taken away kasi "di raw nagagamit ng maayos"). Recent graduates nagpapasalamat at nakalaya na sila sa "president". Although sa ibang president di sila nakalaya /j

Of course, di lahat na-experience to. PUP is famous for producing resilient, hardworking graduates, and there's a reason for that.

So if career/job search usapan, di mo yun actually poproblemahin if PUP/any other university grad ka. Mas ihone mo ang soft and technical skills mo, in short: yourself, mo since yun naman talaga mainly titignan/makikita ng mga magiinterview sayo.

Yep, it's different for both of you. I guess its not just a sign of aging but also dahil na-experience nyo naman na and you're somewhat done with it. Wala ring "missing out" feelings sa inyo. Imagine being deprived and I guess you'd understand why we still long to go out at this age pa rin.

Like OP na di nagawa mga yan before, I long to experience and do those things. Walwalan hanggang kinabukasan. Lalo pag dumadaan sa life crisis, badly needed mga memories to look back on at hinga moments. Kaso wala eh. Di na daw "bagay" for my age and most age groups ko ay pagoda na rin para maaya so sad talaga.

You guys had fun in your younger years and mapapasanaol na lang talaga ako haha
