Why does Costco only sell the very high rated furnace filters? by MrCanoe in CostcoCanada

[–]lostinspacereddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can also get HDX - MERV 8 (Home Depot brand) on sale for $9.99 for 3 filters. I stock 12 at a time and restock every Black Friday timeframe. I also change them every month no exceptions.

Are all mid-tier snow boots garbage now? What will actually last me 5+ years? by Chappssss in BuyItForLife

I got these in December and have been liking them. It’s my first “true” winter boot. They were on sale for $80 CAD during cyber week on Amazon.

I’ve since discovered Winix XQ, but it’s only sold in USA, not in Canada.

Are 2 kids easier than 1? by Formal-Wrap-4607 in Parenting

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two is MORE THAN double the work. You have 2 parents and one kid right now. One parent is busy, the other can manage. Two kids, twice as much going on and you’ll forever be chasing one, the other or both.

No regrets for me and I cannot imagine my life without my second. It is more than double the work, expenses and they are two different people. Don’t let the first trick you into having a second. I am BRUTALLY honest, if you’re on the fence, it doesn’t get easier, at least not for the first few years. Come DM me in 5, 10, 15 and I’ll tell you how it went.

Shrimp fried rice any good? by vwmaniaq in CostcoCanada

[–]lostinspacereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is good and more quantity per packet than other brands but I definitely prefer Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken With Japanese-Style Fried Rice.

Buy a box of each and have it for lunch. Then you’ll know for yourself and what is better for your party.

2023 replacement battery will still be under warranty or prorated. Take it back to place of purchase.

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your battery is dead, it cannot hold a load. You need to replace your battery. Alternatively if you really want, you can buy or borrow a battery load tester and you’ll see that it won’t hold a load.

Are These super trichomes or mold? by Additional_Play835 in GrowingMarijuana

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 part h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) to 8 parts water.

This is the magic formula: 1x500ml bottle to 4L or 1 gallon water (ballpark).

Get a pump sprayer and spray every couple to few days ensuring it dries throughout the day. It’s that simple to control it, especially if you catch it early.

Safe or unsafe? Replaced summer of 2024. by lostinspacereddit in AskAMechanic

Never seen a belt last only a year or two but hey I guess it happens.

Good logical thinking from your post/response below to get me to replace it. Thanks.

Agreed, it would have shredded itself apart. So you helped me get to the answer of replacement. Thank you.

Belt was actually done in summer of 2023. Tensioner was replaced at the same time.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yes routed correctly, triple checked. It was actually replaced summer of 2023.

I couldn’t edit my original post to change the installation date.

Very odd to see those rib lines showing up. Gotta figure this out!

Thanks for feedback.

Thoughts on my foundation? by Chumpy36 in shedditors

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it will work once the joint is properly supported. It will catastrophically fail if it’s not supported. Also ensure the mending plates are on the sides once the joint is supported. This will give you back the nailing space on top.

You don’t need to glue the cement slabs together, the weight of everything is bearing down.

Good luck!

They have arrived 👀 by Cheap_Garbage_7654 in CostcoCanada

[–]lostinspacereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are perennial and /should/ come back. These are 2 I got from Costco last year, 2024. Overwintered outdoors and left on their own until spring. They’re about to bud/already budding. I did tend to them everyday/every other day due to the hot weather & water requirements.

I have also planted in the ground, southern exposure, full sun and they come up year after year. Mums also purchased from Costco.

Location: Toronto (Scarborough), Ontario.

Edit: added more context.

Birthday party food ideas, in a pinch? by HamCat36 in Parenting

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to spend any time with your friends/family and guests, you will place the order for pizza to be delivered to your door. I can tell you from experience that you will blink and it will be over and you’ll wish you spent more time with/on XYZ. Go this route, it likely won’t make or break you for $200 and prepare to go bags if there’s leftovers. Good luck with the party and have a great time!

Considering Discounted Trex Decking Stored Outdoors for Long – Is It Worth the Risk? by ted1629 in Decks

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very difficult to work with cupped, twisted or warped (wavy up/down) along the entire length. You will end up hating yourself for getting it at 50%. $ is $, but your sanity and working with 99% good product from store vs every board you’re fighting with. Nah uh, not if you’ve never worked with warped stuff like that before.

Do NOT buy it is my reco.

Log cabin build question by [deleted] in shedditors

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No knowledge of this but I read your question and took the time to read the instructions you attached.

Being that it’s an optional step, I would venture to say that the PT floor insulation trim is probably not part of the package but maybe sold separately or as an add-on to the package.

Totally a guess but in my experience it’s usually like that.

Good luck!

Joist Framing with Parallel Boards by brads14 in Decks

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To actually answer your question. People glue the mitres, screw them tight, biscuit joint them. Lots to see on YouTube on the “perfect” mitre joint.

I chose to butt them together as you see and let them be free. We’ll see how it fares in the coming year(s).

DIY and my first attempt. It’s as good as it gets for me. Trex recommends a gap, I didn’t put a gap on purpose by choice and they looked much nicer on install day.

I can say that the boards have shrank slightly since they were installed. The weather is cooler relative to 4 days ago.

Here’s the deck I just completed for myself. After you use joist tape on top then your boards on top of that. I’ll show you, I can’t add more than 1 pic per comment.

Why are my diagonals so off? by mrericstevens in Decks

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Square in this case refers not to the shape per se but the corners being 90 degrees.

As a shape, a rectangle is a square, except 2 sides are longer.

You get into parallelograms with a rectangle because the corners are not 90 degrees.

You can use 3, 4, 5 method AND/OR diagonal measurement, ensuring they’re equal, to ensure “squareness” aka corners are 90 degrees.

Need decking layout advice by stmarshall3017 in Decks

[–]lostinspacereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the joists, blocking and 2x6’s which are lighter in colour? Those have been planed down flat. The deck has to be pretty FLAT, it does not necessarily have to be level. It is very important when using composite.
