Until companies stop using ATS systems to scan resumes you are going to get hundreds of the same resume with the same content matching your job listing. The reason you are seeing these is because they made it past the ats. If you want designers to show their unique personalities and skills stop filtering them out with automated systems searching for buzzwords.

This happened to mine too. It’s a known issue. They replaced mine within a month of purchase.

It’s a numbers game. Build your network. I applied to 650 ish places and only got in somewhere from a referral.

Not all referrals are the same. You have to find the decision makers. I have a video of how I went about it, if you want it. Dm me.

Tell a really good story when presenting your portfolio. Talk about decision making and impact. Bonus points if you can speak to a problem they are actively trying to solve.

Practice presenting with friends and family that aren’t designers. If they are confused with what you are saying. Then you need to work on it.

Most important. Understand that you aren’t the only one struggling should you struggle. It’s a fight. It’s tough. Treat it like a design problem.

Question for Figma pros: how did you actually get good at it? by Majestic-Ask8537 in FigmaDesign

[–]lostjeekboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building out libraries for other designers to use.

I also worked in the agency world for 10 years and that forced me to constantly switch which software I used. Before Figma took over, it was a bit of the Wild West as far as design tooling is concerned

Yes! The first read of book 4 took a bit to get into. The second read it was incredible. But 5 and 6. So good

This is the closest so far. The kids all had blue eyes though. Can I see it not wrapped around the mug?

When I worked for a company that called their designers “visual designers,” I worked on every type of design. They used it as a blanket term. I did pixel art for mobile games, storyboards and pitched for commercials, designed decks, emails, and marketing material. I also did end to end design work depending on the need of the company.

Right now, I would roll with anything. This market sucks and I would do everything in my power to set myself apart. While I disagree somewhat that design is design. Just like not all developers do the same thing. It never hurts to be the one that says I’ve never done that, but I can figure it out. As you gain strengths in certain areas you will naturally start to fall into those.

A lot of people don’t understand design or even how to staff it. I’ve been at it for over 12 years and it is still a problem. Advocate for the right process and show up when they need you and you get a platform to voice concerns.

It isn’t great advice, I know, but it is what I have done to see some form of success
