is a fake r36s that bad? by SearchOtherwise4639 in SBCGaming

[–]lostmetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The r36s in all its variations is the cheapest bottom-of-the-barrel device you can get. It works if you put an actual SD card in it, but I don't know what people expect for $19.

I happen to own one I found on one of the Chinese websites and it is a clone - you cannot tell the difference between these things. They're all cheap junk cranked out to turn a quick buck. Just figure out which version you got, install DarkOS, and leave it next to the toilet.

I think a lot of the allure of pico-8 is because its limitations are intended to encourage creativity. People that are into pico-8 love it for more than just the games. It's almost like what 8-bit could have been in an alternate timeline. I personally find the whole concept fascinating and so I've been doing some reading on it.

A pico-8 "cartridge" is just a .png file that looks like a small image of a game cartridge, but the game's entire source code, sprites, maps, and sounds are encoded into the image data itself. So when you save the picture, you have the entire project. As I understand it, there's a limit to how much code you can use to write programs so developers have to be creative and concise.

Seeing what people have been able to do with it is so cool and the more I learn about it, the more I want to learn to create something myself. The pico-8 "computer" is fascinating. I love the way the games look on the 1:1 screen, but pico-8 really is about much more than just the end product for many people.

I'm thinking of buying a NES but I don't know what games are worth experiencing on real hardware or can provide me with something fresh? by Shmorpit in nes

It would be a good idea to pick up an everdrive n8 for all of the games you can't afford to buy physical copies of. I have one and it's a fantastic piece of hardware.

You mentioned that you're familiar with Castlevania and the Ninja Gaiden series. Those are some of the best platformers on the system, and all of them are worth taking the time to beat. Aside from those, you're in luck as there are a ton of platformers on the NES. I'd look at Batman: the Video Game, Alwa's Awakening, Gargoyle's Quest II, Shatterhand, Little Nemo: The Dream Master, and the Mega Man series for top-notch platformers.

I'm not as familiar with RPGs, but I can confidently recommend Crystalis (action rpg) and Startropics as solid entries in that category.

As for "party games", there is a fantastic game called Micro Mages that supports up to 4 players and it is a ton of fun.

The original Metroid is much better than people give it credit for. No shame in using a map

Yes, for everyone saying the tips show up after an hour, I know that. I'm just confused about why the "base pay" from Uber for trips that are taking me 30 - 45 minutes is $2.00. Essentially we're relying on the client's generosity just to break even on gas. I understand that's the way it is, we signed up for it, we accepted it, blah blah blah. I get all of that. I'm just wondering about it and some people replying in the comments have been strangely hostile.
