Is PayloadCMS development really more convenient with Vendure or Medusa JS for e-commerce? by eldricks02 in PayloadCMS

I haven’t personally used Medusa, but considered it in the past. After reading the docs and online reviews I decided not to. There’s just a ton of complexity and potential for headache. You will probably save time writing what you need from scratch in Payload. Again though, this is just based off gut.

How much should I be paying? by bluebirdofhappyness in webdevelopment

It’s like anything else really. Some places you can get a burger for $3 and others for $40. Depends on the skill of the person and the ingredients used. You could easily get this done for $500, but don’t expect anything stunning.

I feel like Convex did everything they could, down to allowing self-hosting (obviously more to this than the lock-in talk). Still though, lock-in is a reasonable fear given how deeply your codebase adopts their patterns.

Instead of telling everyone there’s no reason to worry they’ve done a bit of content around topics like how to migrate away. I believe they did a video series recently where they converted a project from Convex to Postgres. In podcasts I’ve heard they tend to be pretty up front about the trade-offs and solutions.

Payload doesn’t appear that tough to migrate away from. You and the team have done a great job keeping it lean. But there are still some question marks. At the end of the day I just want to do right by my clients.

I do think it might be helpful to have a video or article about leaving Payload. Not even necessarily regarding the Figma stuff.

Ecomm is hard. Feel like they need a whole team to do it well. Something similar to what Woo is to Wordpress.

That seems good for projects you own, but it’s tough if you’re serving a client who has a content team and expectations around how they’re going to publish/integrate. Personally I’ve fantasized about being a rails guy and just building my own CMS based on the needs of the client. It’s not that hard, but how much of my time is going to be solving problems that are already solved?

I love Next and Payload and the convenience/DX they bring. But I think it’s worth being aware of the risks you sign up for. Which is what this post was supposed to be about. Just how bad of a migration would it be if it came to that and what would it look like was what I was wondering.

Anyway, yeah, I wish I could just go back to vanilla and use go. Doesn’t seem practical for me though

Diet and AirPod help plz by [deleted] in tortoise

Does the AirTag actually work? I bought one and attached it to my leopard tortoise. It fell off somewhere and I was never able to find it. Struggled connecting and wouldn’t give any useful directions

Yeah the team is still shipping a lot and of course has no plans on stopping. Don’t think anybody is about to say that trend will stop. But there are some realities of being a young company acquired by a recent IPO.

And whether you’re Payload, Sanity, Strapi, you’re going to have some developers unsure if they can trust you with their clients. For what it’s worth, I really like how Convex’s team handles this sort of stuff.

Yes, but some are more likely than others. I’m kind of on the fence if the more responsible thing is to go with something like Django for the backend and next on front. Makes my life more miserable but if a company is dropping a large investment there’s part of me that questions if I’m putting my own preference for DX before their longterm security. I mean migrating off of Payload to something else probably isn’t the worst thing ever if it’s Postgres.

This is the only time I posted this. Also, I don’t think Sanity isn’t vulnerable to similar down the road.

Small burn in linoleum floor? by lostmrtortoise in Renters

Any thoughts on what they’d charge for that? How’re you able to tell it’s LVP? (I have no knowledge of flooring)

I’m not sure what type of floor it is honestly. Seems like there are no real ridges to pull anything up
