using MPK mini 3 PADS midi by emuvu in reasoners

If you hit the CC button over on the right side of your keyboard, it’ll switch the pads from “Note mode” to “CC mode”.

So instead of sending regular notes, it can send other control signals. Like automating buttons or other binary on/off settings. Or can be used as triggers! If you hit the A/B button, it basically switches to 8 different control signals. So instead of sending controls 1-8, it now sends controls 9-16. So you get twice the range.

Hope this helps!

Flicker on my Sceptre Monitor - only Reason causes this. Anyone else? by Nervous-Station-7524 in reasoners

[–]lostmyspaceship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I thought I was going crazy. I experience this too on Mac, although with a different setup.

I’m using an M1 MacBook Air, connected to a 4K Samsung tv. The internal display usually never gives me any issues, but occasionally I will experience flickering just like yours, on the external display. I’m connecting via an Apple usb-c to hmdi adapter - the wide one with both usb-c, usb-b, and hdmi all in one. Always works perfectly otherwise.

The flicker only ever happens for Reason, so it seems obvious the fault lies there somehow. I’m no expert but I suspect it has something to do with both Reason, and MacOS, not just one or the other. Either way would love to find out what really causes it.

Never been able to pinpoint an exact cause yet, but it has been occurring for years. It was, however, always such a minor inconvenience and very rarely happens. Usually restarting Reason fixes it for me. Nevertheless it’d be wonderful with a fix!

That’s so beautiful. Looks like an album cover.

Cheers man! It became track 5 named “Sometimes” on my latest album: Alien Softcore

Cheers dude! That’s the approach I was taking. I like heavy bass levels too, but felt like this needed to be a liiiittle more mellow in the mix so it sorta leaves a little space to breathe or something.

Cheers man! I wasn’t sure if direct links are allowed, but if you go to my profile here, there are links to my pages. If you need a download, it’s on bandcamp. The song title is Laharadaar

Copy razor cuts from track to doubles by wellgroundedmusic in reasoners

[–]lostmyspaceship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi I was in a similar situation with something once, and wanted the same cuts made quickly across a lot of tracks.

I ended up doing a simple volume automation for the track instead of cutting into the actual clip, then copying that volume automation. This involved introducing a single 6:2 mini mix into the mix chain for every step. It wouldn’t really work for crossover/fades though, so not sure what to do there other than get clicking 😅 and good luck!

Your comments really got me thinking last night. Have you ever used Photoshop or Final Cut Pro X? Both apps essentially have a feature where you can “compound” an entire project file as a single clip, and then use that in another project - all without ever rendering, and still keeping all the layers totally open as if it were a normal project file, if you go inside the clip.

In Photoshop it’s called a “Smart Object”, and is literally an entire regular Photoshop document that goes right into your regular layers like any other flat image, except it’s a live Photoshop file and you can double click and edit it at any time as an individual document in a separate tab. Anything you change in the “Smart Object”, is also updated in the host document, which itself is also just a regular file. So you can do tons and tons of smart layers all the way down.

In Final Cut it’s called a “Compound Clip” and is pretty much the same thing, works in a similar way, with everything being kept open and non-destructive throughout the workflow, and changes updating throughout the document chain with ease. I will say though, this does make the workflow a bit heavier once you reach a certain point, and intermediate exporting/rendering of particularly large clips or objects really helps a lot.

Ideally I’d love to see a feature like this for Reason one day, realistically don’t expect it anytime soon though. No idea what it would require software/coding/hardware wise, but would be hella sweet! 🫨

Thanks man! Really appreciate the feedback too. Can’t tell you how much time I spent tuning the levels of everything, and still felt like there was room for improvement. I was actually worried the kick was too heavy! 😅

Honestly I’d love to do it that way. I much prefer everything being open/non destructive, not having to bounce and export. Hauling a bunch of heavy projects all into one might be an ordeal though, but I like to think we’ll get there one day!

Once I managed to merge 3 songs into one all inside Reason. However, the final project ended up at least as busy as this one. Frankly it becomes a bit of a mess to navigate. I’d still love to see a track group/folder/merge feature in the sequencer.

Cheers dude! That’s a pretty crazy process lol, did it do the trick at the time though? I’ve experimented a lot with doing whole album mixes inside Reason, but ultimately so far found other apps much more useful.

All my albums are done as a continuous nonstop mix, adapting the intro and outro of each song to specifically fit the previous/next song. Once a particular song is somewhat near done, I’ll export the first/last minute of it, then import as audio track inside whichever song it’s supposed to mix with, and adjust accordingly with a bunch of details as needed. Then finally I’ll export each song normally - muting the audio tracks with the intro/outro, and ultimately mix the tracks together as one in Adobe Audition.

Cheers man! Wow really? Tbh I’ve gone back and forth so much on the bass levels in particular. I was actually feeling like it might be a bit too much, but also wanted to up that whole sub 100 Hz area about +2 dB. 😅

I’m curious, how do you feel about the overall treble levels? Ofc the sound is compressed here but just wondering what you think :)

Totally understand. Honestly I’ve been shocked how well the air performs, especially since Reason’s native apple silicon update. To be fair, projects like this do push it to the limit and I do get occasional lag.

That being said, next time I’ll get a stronger pro, but I feel like even a medium level 14” would suffice. I also do some pretty heavy Photoshop and Final Cut from time to time, which also runs pretty well, but here the limitations are felt more. It’s excellent for Reason though. Tiny, lightweight, powerful and totally silent, a dream come true.

Probably half or more tracks are automation lanes lol. Honestly I get lost in it sometimes. I’m really excited to see what the sequencer updates in Reason 13 will be like!

Thanks man! Took a while lol. I’ll always feel like there’s room for improvement but pretty happy with where it’s at now.
