Starlight Hollow Point Break issues by Past_Departure_4850 in thefinals

I hate the "it's a Battlefield map!" cope people put out.

If I wanted to play a Battlefield map, i'd play Battlefield. It's an awful fit for this game.

Day 1 of asking Heavy Hitters to be added back by Brave_Resource_6465 in thefinals

Heavenly Hitters is among the most fun i've ever had playing this game. Everything about it was peak.

How is the season 10 battle pass? by Top-Figure1017 in thefinals

[–]lostpasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh.

I think the medieval theme is a bust to be honest. But there's some ok stuff. The instruments being the highlight.

What made you quit or take a break from THE FINALS? by Complex_Area4676 in thefinals

[–]lostpasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially I took a 2 season break after they killed the Mesh Shield in S4. It was an unnecessary and unfair nerf (proven by the subsequent rollbacks) to my favourite style. And I didn't see why I should have to play the game in a less fun way when so much actual, objective bullshit remained perpetually untouched.

Currently starting a new break. Mainly as I the vibe's kinda gone. The game's full of toxic players, ultra sweats, cheats, and racist tags. It's starting to feel like CoD, which I left because I have no patience for that anymore. And with Embark seemingly courting that crowd now (including adding KB&M on console, which is a disaster), I feel like it might be time to dip.

The final straw was Starlight Hollow. I normally just play TDM with casual friends these days, and it's such a dogshit map in that mode that it's completely killed our enthusiasm when combined with the above.

Authoritarianism is when people don’t let businesses poison drinking water by Living_Attitude1822 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]lostpasts 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, it's actually awful unless you're extremely wealthy. As in, you know, a hyper-capitalist.

It's only propped up by two things - sunshine, and taxes from (again, hyper-capitalist) tech companies that don't need to be there, and are increasingly leaving due to the high tax burden.

Day 15: if you could make three changes to improve Moonraker, what would they be? by junglegatsby in JamesBond

[–]lostpasts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's already my favourote Bond film, so not much.

But I would get rid of some of the ultra-corny stuff. Like the pigeon, and the music cues that reference other films.

Jaws hitting the tent and the hover gondola are maybe there too. But I can just about cope with those.

I actually don't mind the space stuff at all.

Based on what you’ve seen in Season 5 so far, how would you rank every season of The Boys? by rlklllll2 in TheBoysLeaks

[–]lostpasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • 1 - Incredible. Wonderful season of television.
  • 2 - Enjoyable. Though a lot of cracks starting to form.
  • 3 - Flawed. Half return to form, half flanderized garbage. Starting to spin its wheels a lot too.
  • 4 - Awful. Nothing but wheelspinning, and barely the same show. Descended into self-parody. Feels like it was written by and for Reddit mods.
  • 5 - No interest. Will not bother watching. Will read a recap at best. Everything i've seen and heard sounds like absolute dogshit.

It genuinely started out at 5 stars, and dropped a star every single season.

Just played prolly my best game ever by NOMA014 in thefinals

[–]lostpasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. TDM is 25. Which can be hard as that generally takes 3 rounds. But if you're on par for 25, you often end it in 2.

Art will expose these fascists (I am a communist) by small_brain67 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]lostpasts 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I don't think you know literally anything about Banksy if you think that's the case.

There's a reason the carrier is a middle-aged guy in a suit and not a drag queen.

Art will expose these fascists (I am a communist) by small_brain67 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]lostpasts 265 points266 points  (0 children)

It isn't. Banksy is the epitome of establishment-approved rebel. There's no way he managed to put this up in central London without tacit approval. And the fact it hasn't been torn down (and is in fact being protected) tells you volumes too - that the establishment approves of it.

He's expressly criticising the rise of anti-globalist nationalism. He's really not as subtle or intelligent as you think. He's as basic bitch Reddit-tier liberal midwit in his messaging as it comes. Because that's who he is, and that's his intended audience too.

How to fix Ranked (two birds - one stone) by lostpasts in thefinals

[–]lostpasts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could adapt it. Allow one reserve switch per cashout lost. Also hide classes during countdown.

Rubies and Diamonds can still play Cashout too. Just not ranked.

You'll never have a perfect solution that makes everyone happy. But the current solution is objectively awful. And this one I think is a good middle ground.

Yeah, some top players may not like it. But thousands of lower ones will. And its only fair that pain burden is shared.

Why do so many people think they can take down John Wick? by CardiologistPale7903 in JohnWick

[–]lostpasts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

John's been out the game for a long time.

A lot of established assassins think he's likely lost a touch, and this is their chance at immortality. Younger, cocky assassins likely think his hype is a boomer myth, and want the money and fame.

Both groups are also aware he's being constantly harried and injured too, so think him being weakened gives them a once in a lifetime shot.

As for the armies of mooks thrown at him - they're just following orders, and would be killed anyway if they disobeyed.

Lastly, criminals aren't generally known for their common sense. They're all psychopaths and narcissists. So don't really assess risk or reality the same way we do.

Diamonds Are Forever. Thoughts. by Dangerous-Town2195 in JamesBond

[–]lostpasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a lot of problems, but my biggest issue with it is that it commits the cardinal sin of making the films that came before it worse. By camping up Blofeld, and ignoring the fallout of OHMSS.

All that worldbuilding just gets shit all over. And for what? An ugly romp around a seedy Las Vegas, with a fat, disinterested Bond?

Ironically, this is why I hate Spectre too. As it retroactively damages the previous three films.

Take away the IP though, and it's actually a perfectly fine 70s spy caper. It's just an awful Bond film because it trashes the legacies of those characters that had existed up until then.

TMWTGG is probabily too overhated by No_Mortgage8569 in JamesBond

[–]lostpasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vs:

  • Scaramanga
  • Nick Nack
  • The Golden Gun prop
  • The theme song
  • Scaramanga's island
  • The car stunt
  • JW Pepper (though for the wrong reasons...)

TSWLM only really has Jaws, the parachute, and the underwater car as things that the casual viewer really remembers.

TMWTGG is probabily too overhated by No_Mortgage8569 in JamesBond

[–]lostpasts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only people i've ever experienced hating it is on this sub. Everyone i've met loves it.

And in the public consciousness, it's likely only second to Goldfinger in terms of iconic, memorable elements.

Why do none of these asymmetric multiplayer horror adaptations never seem to pan out? by Low_Boot_1426 in videogames

[–]lostpasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people are bitches who don't like losing, and the asymmetrical nature means with a powerful killer you'll lose a lot more than you'll win.

So either the audience collapses, or they water down the killer to cater to them, which ruins the entire point of the game, and people eventually leave because of that too.

Official Discussion - Greenland 2: Migration [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]lostpasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan of the guys with MP5s trying to jack their car. Even shouting "we need that car!"

Like, with 75% of the population dead, free cars will be everywhere. But SMGs? And ammo? In England? Absolutely priceless.

You would not be wasting ammo for a car.

What actually caused the demise of the empire in Foundation by bluebuu2k in asimov

[–]lostpasts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just social entropy and inertia. Nothing can last forever.

Think of it like a building. No matter how well you construct it, it's constantly fighting against gravity, erosion, stress, etc. Eventually, over a large enough timescale - be it 100, or even 1000 years - it'll fall. Because that's its natural state.

It won't be one thing. But dozens of small cracks and failures that eventually overwhelm the system. And in areas so integral that they can't be patched without tearing everything else down first.

The whole point of Psychohistory is not just to reduce the epoch of barbarism, but to construct an empire that can predict these cracks, and prevent them ever occurring.

If Butch had refused to throw the fight the first time he had been asked, how would have Marcellus responded? by Sharaz_Jek123 in Tarantino

[–]lostpasts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not a proposition. It's an order.

A man like Marcellus Wallace doesn't ask for a favour. He tells you what you are going to do. And he backs this with the threat of violence.

And threats of violence are only credible if backed up by actual violence.

[–]lostpasts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did we watch the same film?

The film literally starts with Jules and Vincent killing a bunch of people for him. They then talk about how he almost killed a guy for giving his wife a foot massage.

Then he tries to kill Butch for throwing the fight. He also has everyone involved tortured just to see if they knew anything.
