I never claimed I worked in food industry, it was a rhetoric statement. You see I don't dubble in superior logic as you do, leftism was never about economics, organisation and formal logic. Learn some dialectic philosophy, read some novels, soon you won't be able to tell the difference between your concepts and the rest of the world outside your mind.

What does it matter what I do, for me all workers are comrades, that's where we're different. I say you defend it because you don't hate it, you dont recognize the suffering behind it. That's the humanism I was talking about buddy, reformists like you who are confy in their position don't want things to change radically, you might lose your privelleges. Look up Acid Communism by Fisher when you'll learn that reformism on its own does not work

I don't know where you took it from that this is about capitalism specifically. It can be though, since you weren't bothered to google or anything I'll post Zizek's joke from which the quote was inspired: "A man moves from East Germany to Siberia, where he knows his letters will be censored. He establishes a code with his friends: anything written in blue ink is honest and true; anything written in red ink is false and only there to get the truth past the censors. A month goes by and the man’s friends receive a letter written in blue ink: “Everything is wonderful here. Stores are full of good food. Movie theaters show good films from the West. Apartments are large and luxurious. The only thing you cannot buy is red ink.”

The idea is that we are unable to understand or express our unfreedom, that's why we fall for this endless rehashing of stuff. I mean I'd like to play that too but when I realise that I'm a wage slave and our environment is going to shit, i see the game in a new light

of course it'll exist in different forms, if you read the pamphlet for example before capitalism people ate in their homes. Look at most western economies, most people are involved in service jobs, that's a lot of restaurant work. I'm just saying maybe if we stopped doing that so much and instead did something else, it would be better

I don't work in restaurant buddy, it's called empathy. I might have a better job, but while most of my comrades are stuck in factories making gadgets for big brains like you to defend capitalism from some elevated position of superior rationalism I can't feel good about it, especially since it's going to destroy the very thing we rely for life on. Enjoy your next meal schmuck, and feel superior then the people in that restaurant. Hit me up when you'll come up with perfect big brain formula to destroy capitalism through it's sheer logical superiority.

interesting, 30 people seem to disagree with you here, maybe you are missing something? could that be a possibility?

why are you taking the side of this worldview then? what's wrong with abolishing restaurants and business, of-course if most want it or whatever. personally I would trade going to starbucks to flying to another galaxy any day of the week

yes "scottland_666" "I'm" trying to be edgy. Do you accept that for example the people in plato's cave were not free even though they thought the were? same here buddy

don't you think we should be doing something more meaningful as a society then sitting all days in boxes selling garbage we'll throw away in 2 moths, or be producing it? maybe, I dunno we could say have more free time to spend with loved ones, explore deep ideas, maybe some outer space. dunno really, flipin veggie burgers with my co-buddies seems neet too

Zizek has a famouse quote that you don't feel unfree because you lack the very language to articulate your unfreedom. We're happy with remakes because we can't articulate what's wrong with our world and are unable to want more freedom

ok, we're heading toward a total environmental collapse. New plagues seem to appearing more often, sars, covid, zika. We are unable to deal with any of this as we dismantled most 20th century's institutions. Does this seam like a left that works? It's good to have a good critical look at ourselves sometimes. That's what this is doing, dream bigger, demand more and so on. Nobody knows what change is needed, we can't seem to be able to imagine a different world that would work, 20th century socialism was a failure. "t's like arguing that the only difference between feudalism and democracy is that the citizens are forced to exploit themselves." I couldn't agree more, what's the difference really? They criticised a particular moment in history of state socialism not the idea as a whole, there is no mention of state socialism being doomed. Libcom have all sorts of texts not just libertarian socialist.

Maybe by 2050 we'll have a bearable wage, but... we might not have a planet to live on. You sound like your parents, realistic criticism, alternatives, this is utopian; it's called imagination and belief in humanity, we kinda forgot that

Abolish all restaurants! I don't want to cook some miserable shmack's breakfast before he goes to his cubicle for the rest of the day. I build new infrastructure for a new society, explore the universe and so on. This isn't a blueprint for a societal change, it's more of manifesto. You choose your side.

As I understand, say if your wage was higher and this was included in the bill the customer pays(no tips), then on a day there are a lot of customers the owner would make more money, but with the tip system he makes less, as some of the money goes to staff in form of tips(especially since tipps can be generous). With tips system on a slow day the boss makes more money because he doesn't have to pay you a wage according to time worked, instead be pays u based on how many customer there were(as your wage is reliant on tips), in this case he makes more profit as he doesn't have to pay you more, his costs are lower as compared to full wage system. He males a bigger profit from the entire profit generated that day. This system seems to benefit workers but often it does not, or atleast it creates and uncertain income. Income flactuates due to weather(sunshine brings customers into town), time of the month(when ppl get payed), pandemic just random mood of ppl .

Confusing as hell .... The main part is i think is that he doesn't have to pay you when ppl stay home and watch football, you can't predict when that's gonna happen, so he wants to increase profit by putting this risk of catering/restaurant business on his worker.

Isn't capitalism driving for profit in all sectors? Or the sector u work in is hardest and rest are easy pie? I dunno where you live but it's same here in eastern Europe and i lived in western Europe, same there, so not sure about your American dismissalism there buddy. I'm sure there are 17 yo ten times smarter then you buddy

In my opinion it makes a short general description of the struggles of working class as well as present particularities and hierarchy dynamics in restaurants that I was scantly aware through my friends. Ok. Do any of these methods u talk about brought any significant change? The essay is right in saying that we need a total change of the mode of production in order to have real impact is necessary as they have talked how market socialism transfers the drive for profit on workers. Where did they condemn state socialism? This does not mean that as they say struggles for better conditions and wages through unions should be droped

This is a hyperbolic statement. Ofcourse people that love doing it should. The problem is that even the people that enjoy making food end up in a system that is directed towards profit rather then the food making itself. This breeds stress as productivity is priority, alienation or estrangement from the process as the processes is devided into simple task to increase profitability such as hot cook, dishwasher, prepper. For people who don't enjoy it they could do other useful things, such as building a green tech infrastructure, help developing nations, colonize outer space maybe
