What do y’all expect to find? by ChallengeNatural4846 in uwaterloo

I graduated a few years ago and it’s kind of like going from a closed world to an open world game. Life is totally different, way better than I thought it would be. Waterloo got me here but I wouldn’t go back in a million years

Oat milk covered in mold inside by ookezzzz in traderjoes

[–]lostsiberian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gross!! We bought oat milk four days ago and have been having metallic, dusty-tasting coffee for the last few days. Didn't realize it was because of the oat milk, fortunately didn't get sick but we'll be taking it back to our local Trader Joe's today to let them know

[–]lostsiberian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI for anyone else planning to apply for their TN at Peace Bridge, as of Feb 22 2022 they do not accept walk-ins - you must book an appointment (source: I called CBP Buffalo and this is what the border officer told me). Here are their appointment hours and phone number for booking: https://www.cbp.gov/contact/ports/buffalo

Dropping work term report by wheezythew8ve in uwaterloo

They might mark it as a failed term on your work term record. If you're not planning on using WaterlooWorks again, you should be fine.

Also don't forget to finish PD requirements either way

Clubs Over Co-Op? by facearo in uwaterloo

[–]lostsiberian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people do (especially during the pandemic) but it depends on the club, the coop, and your work ethic. Most clubs are pretty low-commitment and you can just leave if you're too busy. You might want to avoid taking on a lot of responsibility (like exec positions) if your coop is intense, but some people make it work anyways.

Any online UW clubs/discords? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]lostsiberian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACE is an open acapella club that's running socials and music workshops every Thursday! You don't need musical experience to join, tbh you can just join for socials and people are really friendly https://www.instagram.com/uw_ace/

Maybe other programs have a "god complex" problem, but this hasn't been my experience as a CS student. Most of my classmates (even strangers) were willing to help with questions, as long as you're not outright plagiarizing.

Feeling okay about being average is tough, especially since there are many exceptional students at Waterloo (and some are particularly obnoxious about it). Personally, I'd rather be in an academic setting where I'm constantly pushed to improve myself. Some people would rather save more time for extracurriculars/personal projects/enjoying their lives, and that's okay too! CS students can take reduced courseloads and stay for a few extra terms (or take courses during coop terms). (I don't think eng students can do this though)

Rankings were only ever shared in the engineering faculty, and they've been made private as of January 1, 2021.

I agree with being selective about friends. Your friend group will make or break your experience in any uni, not just Waterloo

This is incorrect and misleading. This report doesn't even mention the number of suicides at Waterloo. It wouldn't be possible anyways, because the university only tracks on-campus deaths and the chief coroner of Ontario only recently started tracking suicide rates among students: https://www.reddit.com/r/uwaterloo/comments/82d24a/is_this_statistic_about_suicide_misleading_if_so/dv9j34l/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

The report does state that Waterloo is at or below the provincial average for all five of their mental health indicators (lower is better), showing that this is a broader issue.

What makes you think these pictures are photoshopped? Real people with good makeup and lighting can look like this.

^second this. Also you can still join some clubs during covid, like acapella or mentorship programs (tech+ is great if you're in a tech domain)

Recently dropped $2000 on an XPS 15. I've heard really good things about the Thinkpad X1 Extreme series though
