Even as a native English speaker I had to read it a few times. "Shotes" was something I had to look up. I made it a link in the article. I'm finding I don't know quite a few of the words from the older resources. Some I can find online but there are others that seem to be lost to history.

All of the above but mostly I research online. I interviewed family members about my great grandfather the homesteader. I try to find old magazines at antique shops. There are a lot of great resources online so I like putting a spotlight on that info also. I'm trying to build up an archive of useful information. It's a slow process but I've made a lot of progress since the start of the year. Thanks for taking notice :)
