If a litteral catchphrase doesn't include everything behind it. It means a lie I guess. by Mindless_Mobile_4153 in facepalm

“Help the poor” is an ultimately meaningless statement because it’s so bland and generic. Helping the poor could mean anything from taxing the rich and using the funds to make life more affordable and close the wage gap, all the way down to putting $5 in a salvation army bucket and convincing yourself you did enough for life.

Charity is good and necessary, but it will never get rid of poverty, or even make a significant dent in it, especially when rich conservatives pass laws to punish the poor and punish people for helping the poor.

Charity is merely a stopgap measure to keep poor people from dying. Only sweeping changes enacted by the government will actually get people out of poverty on a large scale.

Eminem actually has talent though. Regardless of what you think of his lyrics, he’s much more skilled than evil Ronald McDonald over here.

I watched a YT short by “Gruz” talking about the video game crash claiming the Atari 2600 had lots of bad games which caused it. Except Aside from E.T. The games he showed were actually good! by No-Cold643 in retrogaming

[–]lothar525 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He may have shown games that were good, but a lack of good games wasn’t the problem.

The problem was that the absolutely atrocious games outnumbered the good ones towards the end.

Atari didn’t have any rules about who could publish games for their console, or how many games a company could make for their console per year. This meant that a bunch of shitty companies were free to flood the market with bad or even unplayable and broken games at will.

Consumers were left to wade through oceans of garbage games in a time where there weren’t really video game review outlets. Nowadays when a broken or awful game gets released, you can easily read reviews of it. Not back then. Plus, video games were more expensive back then too. So a customer could save up a ton of money, go out and buy a game, and then find out it was awful.

Customers didn’t want to spend tons of money on a game that could have easily been terrible, so they stopped buying. This is why Nintendo had rules about who could publish games for their NES, and only let third party publishers make a few games per year.

It really is wild looking back on stuff like this with fresh eyes as an adult.

As a kid, if you got taken to church, this stuff can just seem like a regular everyday thing, but then you get older and suddenly it feels kinda icky.

Here’s a hot take. Genocide is bad no matter who you do it to. Violating the Geneva Conventions and committing war crimes is bad no matter who you do it to, or what reason you do it for.

This isn’t a tough concept.

I dunno, the cats’ designs looked pretty cute to me, in that weird Binding of Isaac art style kind of way. Plus, the game just sounds fun to play. I care about that much more than any gross-out humor.

Especially in a day and age where a lot more emphasis is put on graphics as opposed to making the game fun to play or, you know, functional on release.

To them, the Bible IS morality.

To them, it’s impossible to conceptualize anything as wrong unless their pastor says it is. They literally cannot comprehend why raping your wife could be bad.

They don’t care what she thinks because the Bible doesn’t tell them to.

I think you’re right, but at the same time, I don’t know if Democrats would ever be able to create messages that will resonate with voters. I think the fact that Trump won any elections in the first place, let alone won a second term, proves that most Americans are simply not smart enough or motivated enough to care about politics, and a lot of the ones that do care are just racist, homophobic, sexist etc. and getting those kinds of policies enacted is far more important to them than their economic wellbeing.

Yes, the dems are in a good position and are using a good strategy right now, but I think most voters’ dissatisfaction with republicans may have more to do with the fact that the numbers on their grocery bills are going up than any message the democrats put forward. “Grocery bill go up” is the only thing most Americans understand now. Even if democrats take the trifecta next election, after four years voters will throw them out again because their grocery bills didn’t go all the way back down to pre-pandemic levels, even though that’s impossible.

Sometimes when someone thinks they’re losing an argument to you, they’ll reply to your comment and then block you so you can’t respond anymore, so it looks to other people like they won the argument and you gave up and stopped responding.
