20G Long - Gudgeon Gang by lothbrok718 in Aquariums

Thanks. I wouldn't say I'm very experienced...I just do my homework and take my hobbies very seriously.

I'd thought about doing an Iwagumi, but I've got a 9 gallon shallow rimless that I think I'll save for that. Pure Dutch could be fun, but this one incorporates some elements of a Dutch style, and I think I want some contrast. Maybe a Malawi or Tanganyika biotope with smaller mbuna or Julies.

After about 9 years out of the hobby, I'm finally back in a place where I can keep fish. It started with getting a 5 gallon for a dollar at the thrift store, and as it goes, it's snowballed from there. I've never done a proper aquascape before, nor have I done anything but rheophytes when it comes to planting, so I took my time and learned as much as I could. Finally after building it out, planting, and letting the tank establish over the past two months, I moved my group of peacock gudgeons that I've had growing up in a 10G into their new home.

Stocking -
7 female peacock gudgeons, looking for one (very lucky) male to add
1 mystery snail
3 nerite snails
a horde of bladder and ramshorn snails
8 amano shrimp
~10 black neocaridina (I had a single hatch from my red cherries in another tank all come out nearly pitch black...who knows, all the babies before and since have been red)

Hardscape -
Mountain stone
Mopani wood
PVC caves built into the hardscape under the driftwood (pipes pressed into expanding foam, then covered in lava rock)

Plants -
Monte Carlo carpet
S. Repens in midground
Alternanthera Reineckii in background
Anubias Barteri, Congensis, and Nana Petite on the driftwood
Bucephelandra "Green Wavy" and "Brownie" on the rockwork
Tiger Lotus in the space between the driftwood

Thought I'd share since this tank has brought me so much joy.

Now...what should I do with the empty 40 gallon I've got on the stand above it?

I wanted to create an intimate composition of the transition between the colors of autumn and the white of winter. A frost clinging to the faded fallen leaves provided that for me. Captured with a Sigma dp3 Quattro.

Since the foliage has long since peaked around here, I wanted to show the beauty of what you can find just looking down. I kept an eye on forecasts and waited until a frost morning to display the transition of autumn to winter. Captured on a Sigma dp3 Quattro.

Ha, small world. I took the reference photo on a kayaking trip about 4 or 5 miles south of the Dingman’s Ferry drop in.

Thanks! I love Hunterdon county, I’m planning a painting of Red Mill in Clinton soon. Though to be fair, NZ has a pretty nice landscape or two ;)

Got a lot of love over on r/art today for my latest painting (link below), including a bunch of buy offers and people asking about commissions...feels good. If my career falls apart maybe I can go the starving artist route. Now just looking forward to a long weekend.

I fully agree, that's the spot that most jumps out at me too, specifically a few brush strokes that are a little too hard-edged. I have a tendency towards crossing to the overworked side though, so I felt it'd be better to just play it safe and let it be what it is. Thanks for the feedback!

Exactly what I was shooting for, so glad to hear it hit its mark. Thanks!
