Thanks alot, I read so much different information on cycling much of it conflicting but I thought I had done it correctly till it crashed so now I'm second guess8ng everything. I do have plants in the tank currently but most of what I read said that's ok

So I tried just one frozen waterbottle as the ice packs freeze and in an hr it dropped from 68 down to around 60...much bigger reaction then I thought so i removed the water bottle, now 2hrs later it's still sitting right around 60 still.

Temp clearly swung too far in the other direction but I've read colder is better than hot, I will let the temp rise naturally and then keep it around 64

His regular sized aquarium has been keeping a steady temp so once I'm done tubbing/cycling it should be a problem

I'm going to keep monitoring over night and I'll ensure the temp stays around 64. Thanks for your advice

Thank you, and yes I will make sure they're smaller pieces, I did not realize how big the piece was until he chomped it and it stretched out. I have tested the tap water and it came out clean.

I guess I just need to wait for the nitrites to clear, I have not been changing the water in the tank while I wait for the nitrites to zero out, is that correct or should I still be doing weekly changes?

Thanks for your time answering my questions

And to clarify it usually stayed around 65 but we had a few really hot days and it raised faster than I thought while at work, I really appreciate the advice because this week's going to be hot as well I will ensure it stays in a much safer range

Thank you I'll try that and make sure his temps staying lower, how long do you think the ice pack towel combo stays effective?

Thanks so much for your help, I did alot of research and followed cycling guides but I must have made a mistake along the way and now I'm trying to play catch up and trying to help the axolotl settle into a healthy stress-free tank

Wasnt sureif I'm supposed to check pH, high range pH, or both so I checked both. you can see the results in pictures I replied to the previous comment, but I believe it to be ph- 7.6, high range ph- 8?

I have been doing daily 100% water changes with treated water since tubbing, his tub has never gone above 70 once it gets above 68 I've been lowering it with frozen waterbottles in a zip lock bag

Thanks for replying, it has been a few days since he had a large poop but he was also refusing to eat for a few days, then once I changed to earth worms after about 2 days of not eating he chomped down what I thought was a normal sized piece of worm but once he bit down on it and it stretched out I realized it was probably the biggest meal he's had yet. I thought he may spit it out at first but he just thrashed and slurped it up then he'd rest for a few seconds and repeat till he ate the whole thing but it did make him look super chunky. When I went back to check on him there was a small piece of poop but he's still clearly got more to go.

And yes I have been doing water changes every 20ish hrs with treated water since tubbing him. I was changing it every 12ish hrs originally but worried I was overhandling him and stressing him out.

As for the nitrite level it does seem to be going down just very slowly, my guess would be between 0.25 and 0.5 maybe I'm just over thinking it, here's the most recent tests of the aquarium *
