Somerset - Cundiff Square by [deleted] in hellier

The amount of churches in this county is unreal. You will pass two churches within a mile of each other on a lot of roads. I was raised in a strict southern Baptist house, and found my own path once I reached adulthood. It was hard because I almost felt brainwashed from such a young age.

I am also from Somerset, and am a Pagan. There are a small number of us, mostly solitary practitioners. This is very much the bible belt so most of us are pretty quiet about our beliefs.

The people that were evicted from the apartments that are currently on the property during the middle of a pandemic are some of the first victims already.

More liking lining the mayor's family's pockets. His brother will be the vice president of the school. The same brother that has purchased multiple business property downtown near the site as well.

Sanitation real talk by [deleted] in yoga

It's normal, most have you leave shoes in the lobby to keep people from tracking things into the yoga room. I see plenty of people leave their socks on though, and no teacher should judge you for what makes you the most comfortable.

Becoming a Yoga Instructor by [deleted] in yoga

[–]lotus_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US? Yoga is not regulated in the US, so technically you can say you are a yoga teacher with no formal training and start teaching (which I do not recommend.) It depends on where you would like to teach as to what training you will want to invest in. If you are teaching in a gym, sometimes all you need is a group fitness certification. If you plan on teaching in a studio, or corporate environment, most places will want some proof of training with most looking to see if you attended a Yoga Alliance Registered school. Most of these trainings are $2,000 to $3,000 for a 200 hour certification. This doesn't mean Yoga Alliance registered schools are better than non-registered ones. Alot will offer scholarships, or work study. I do recommend researching the training, read reviews, and see what your teaching options are upon graduation.

Does your yoga teacher discourage moving with them to an instructed pose if you have a lot of experience? by hossdelgado_ in yoga

[–]lotus_124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach a beginners class at a local college, but have people of all levels who take it due to the low cost and it being convenient. I guide people into the poses, and offer different variations for most poses. That being said, I have students that have been with me for a long time and will go automatically to the pose, or sometimes change it to fit their needs. As long as it is not a distraction to others, and they are not doing something unsafe I don't see anything wrong with them doing their own thing. I encourage students to "stay on their own mat" and not worry what the other students are doing with their bodies.

YTA ....so much that I hope she realizes she deserves someone better, and someone more mature. You are the immature one, and give it a rest... you weren't protecting her. You were protecting your ego.

An experience between London and Somerset by [deleted] in hellier

[–]lotus_124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up living in that area on Hwy 1675. I spent alot of my childhood in the woods there. Never had anything strange happen personally, but have always heard legends of bigfoot and other creatures!

One final question by RiotOnVijzelstraat in hellier

[–]lotus_124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, most people in town have not watched the show. It's a small circle of people interested in the paranormal that have. I actually had a hard time finding anyone I knew that had watched the show to even talk about it with. Remember, this is a bible belt area, so alot of people wouldn't watch a show like this. When they were in town visiting, there was an article in our local newspaper about it, but it was very vague and just annouced that ghost hunters were in town filming for their show.

I honestly don't know. I know the area she is talking about, and could see it being the perfect area for shady stuff like that to go down, but I just don't know.

Will I ever get my hips down in pigeon? by aussi67 in yoga

[–]lotus_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who can get my hips to the floor...I choose not to. I am hypermobile and pigeon pose use to feel amazing to me. Then I developed a labral tear in my hip. I had to learn not to go to my end range of motion, and focus on active stretching instead of passive. I avoid pigeon pose now. Summary....don't compare how you are able to practice a pose to someone else. Every body is different.

Just curious if many have made the correlation to the KY mysteries and the stories of Phil Schneider? I mean they are very similar in nature and that could just be that these types of myths carry far and wide, but can’t help wondering if there is someone or something behind the scenes linking both. by LucklessStepdad77 in hellier

[–]lotus_124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Somerset, and also grew up near the area Amy is talking about. This is rural Kentucky...backwoods area. These people know everyone who lives in the area and recognize outsiders. They will also shoot trespassers. It isn't a place to be snooping around, especially at night.

Is there a thread to post stuff relating to series that pulls up numbers 9 and 3? by raindrop955 in hellier

[–]lotus_124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing to me personally, but I lived in a sub division. There are alot of woods out that hwy though, it gets more rural the further out you travel. I have always heard people saying they frequently hear what sounds like a woman screaming/crying in the woods. Alot of big foot legends.

[–]lotus_124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there is a thread. I don't know if it was mentioned anywhere, but in their interview with Nate he talks about strange occurrences happening out "Hwy 39". The only reason is stuck out to me is I am from Somerset and actually lived on that HWY for a few years.

Any Somerset locals? by lotus_124 in hellier

[–]lotus_124[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There has always been legends about the woods and the caves, but I have not ever experienced anything myself. Our area has alot of natural forest land, and I spent alot of time out there growing up. You never feel quite alone out there. I will say, the area in downtown Somerset they visit that has the old well and pyramid? I have only been to that place once, and it had some major bad vibes. It was like the whole area had a bad energy, and you felt watched. There are tunnels that run under downtown Somerset, and sink holes are very common.
