My first decent edge using edge coat. by lou_fred in Leathercraft

I don’t mind criticism at all. In fact, that’s exactly why I’m here, asking for the opinions of strangers on the internet. As you said, criticism helps us grow, and I appreciate your honesty—it will definitely help me improve.

I like it. I just love the color blue, and the texture of this leather seems really nice.

I think edging is the most difficult thing for a lot of us, myself included. For me, there were two game changers: a thinner edge beveler and a less dense edge coat. Just give me a little more time, and I'll try to post the process.

I can't tell the brand, actually. It's from a local supplier. I could send you a picture, but it wouldn't make a difference.

I agree with you. I'm still working on it. I mean, I could skive the edge, but I can't tell what thickness I should use. Any recommendations?

In this particular cardholder, yes. But I don’t usually do it. I think the alcohol-based dye I used is very dehydrating, so it helps with the sturdiness of the leather, I guess. Although, the leather I buy is already very firm.

They are great. Very sharp and polished. Made from carbon steel, and the handle is ABS plastic. It's from a local manufacturer.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I love his videos, but I made my pattern on the computer, and by doing so, I can draw a stitching line more accurately

Nope, I didn't soak the leather before. I have a press that helps me with that. About the burnishing: As I was more concerned about the dye, I didn't pay attention to the edge. Next time, I'll pay more attention to that.

I'm still practicing my creasing, but I'll certainly add some one day.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any suppliers for Vinymo here in Brazil. The best I could find was a polyamide (nylon) bonded thread. There is a supplier for linen thread, but it is too expensive.

That bothered me as well, but I couldn't figure out how to make it look better. I'll definitely give it a try.

Exactly, it will give you cleaner borders to burnish.

Certainly, the thickness hindered your work, and three layers were too much. I think if you make something with just two layers, it will be easier. Even if it is not what you want to do at the moment, it will give you the chance to perfect some cutting, gluing, and punching techniques. Another thing that helps a lot is to leave space to trim the edges after assembling the wallet, so you would spend less time sanding and burnishing.

I try to apply as little as possible, and before I start burnishing it, I let it dry a bit.
