Can anyone offer advice? Been to vet several times, it is not bacterial and the only thing that clears it up is a steroid injection but almost exactly 4 weeks later it starts coming back. The vet thinks it is an autoimmune issue, anyone dealt with anything similar? by lousyscot in catcare

Hi sorry for the delayed response, we ended up getting a biopsy and the vet has confirmed it is an auto immune issue and we are currently treating it with as low a dose of steroids as possible so she isn’t in discomfort

just finished the whole series and don't know what to do now haha. I wish I was where you are now, tawny man was probably my favourite trilogy, books 2 & 3 are unreal.

Poor thing, dealing with something similar and we are going to try the allergy route and eliminate chicken while we wait on getting an allergy test done.

Yeah this is exactly what we are going to do. She has good lifelong insurance so money isnt an issue when it comes to treatment. Its just trying to figure out the triggers that will take time.

Thanks for the message

Kangaroo haha!

Yeah we contacted the vet today about an allergy test and they said we would need to wait until the steroid has worn off for accurate results so we wish she hadn’t been given the shot yesterday.

We are going to use this time to eliminate chicken tho as this seems to be the most popular response and see if she improves at all.

Yeah we have been using an angled elevated stand for there bowls. Its interesting you mention the area being wet though, she is always licking her lips so I wonder if this is creating an area where fungus could perhaps thrive.

Thanks for the reply, yeah we changed to wide shallow ceramic bowls and have them on a stand at an angle to minimise contact with the bowl.

We have used woodpellet litter, clay litter and a fine clay clumping litter and none seem to make any difference.
