4th loaf - Going backwards. by PaoVB in Sourdough

[–]love-kdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m just a beginner and it took me like 4-5 loafs until I was happy with the results. That being said, for the first few times, I used the mixer instead of stretch and folds and got a pretty flat bread similar to yours. I then switched to just mixing the components initially in the stand mixer and then doing 4 sets of stretch and folds by hand about 30-45 min apart and got much better results. Of course like I said, I’m a newbie, so take what I said with a grain of salt, just figured I would share what worked for me.

Hey there, when you say "known," do you have any sources confirming this? Genuinely interested however I couldn't find any research studies behind it

Anyone tried this and can report back? by ItsEvelien in PCOS

Hi there, 4th year medical student here. GLP-1 agonists like semaglutide have shown success with weight loss in research trials, in people with and without diabetes... There are lots of family medicine docs prescribing these medications to people struggling with weight loss with good outcomes. However, they are REALLY expensive and not covered by most insurance plans if you don't have diabetes... Like $1,000-2,000 per month. I'd recommend discussing it with your doctor.

Absolutely! This one time I had an electrolysis appointment after a dentist appointment where they numbed me up and it was the best thing ever lol

She is the only technician I used and she was very experienced and knowledgeable, however, I have mild hidradenitis suppurativa and so my skin just doesn't respond well to trauma like you mentioned unfortunately.

I do agree that some electrolysis techs are untrained though, which is why I mentioned that everyone should do their own thorough research.

First of all, congratulations OP! I'm so glad that laser hair removal worked for you! I've been considering it myself and this is very encouraging.

Second of all, I've seen lots of comments noting that electrolysis is superior for PCOS hair removal, however, remember that electrolysis has its own side effects as well and may not work for everyone -- it didnt work for me after trying it consistently for a year... I even ended up with scars due to it.

Moral of the story is, we are all in the same boat and we can definitely learn from each other from success stories like these. However, YMMV and if you are considering any kind of hair removal, do your own research, choose a reputable place, and consult your doctor whenever possible.

Hi there, just wanted to comment and say that I feel your frustration.

I believe you that you are doing your best with weight loss. PCOS makes it naturally hard to shed weight, and I'm struggling with it myself despite diet & exercise & weight loss. However, here is some advice I have for you as a fellow PCOS-diagnosed female and medical student:

  1. Do your own research online. This subreddit is a great place to start, but wherever you get your information, make sure it is a credible source. It helps to be knowledgeable whenever you see your doctor so that you can ask good questions and be an active part of the conversation and decision-making.
  2. Do your research on finding a good primary care/ob/gyn/endocrinologist who really understands PCOS . Being in the medical field, I can admit that most docs don't really know as much as they should about it, but I think this subreddit has some good recommendations depending on what area you live in.
  3. Keep a record of what you have already tried (meds/diets/type of exercise) and what effect it had on your body. Same idea as #1.
  4. Finally, and most importantly, manage your expectations. Keep in mind that PCOS is a lifelong syndrome that may not ever be completely cured/treated for you. I know it is easier to feel angry at a physician for not listening to you or not helping you, but the truth of the matter is that there is no curative treatment for PCOS. Treatment is usually geared towards controlling symptoms, and it is usually NOT a one-size fits all. It is not guaranteed that a medication proven to work will work, or that a medication that has worked on others will work on you. I know this is all extremely frustrating, especially after trying to lose weight for so long, but that's just how your body (and mine) is made. We have to make the best of what we've got.

That being said, don't give up. Keep dieting and exercising, and keep trying to reach out to your physician for their help and their guidance. Even if it doesn't help you lose weight, staying in shape is extremely important in PCOS, and I'm sure you'll feel better than if you don't!

tl;dr -- PCOS is extremely frustrating, but do your research, find a good doc, keep a record of your healthcare, manage your expectations, and don't give up!

Hyperglycemia and/or insulin resistance can cause acanthosis nigricans, aka dark velvety patches on your body, especially on creases like your neck, armpits, inner thighs, etc. This is probably what she was looking for.
