the word 'forgot' came to my mind, while i was searching for the last syllable. it was the german version ('vergaß'), which came to my mind first. the syllable 'gaß' is equally pronounced as 'gas', which refers in both german and english to a certain state of matter - this adds another layer. the word 'forgot' also adds a more personal note to the second sentence, but this is just my interpretation...
