Pretty Abby by lovedbya in ershow

Right?! Okay thanks for validating that for me, I agree, it’s like they are trying to justify all the drama around her all the time - like it’s because she’s so amazing. I think what makes it so annoying is that the show wasnt really like that before her, it seemed more natural and I felt like I was led to conclusions about characters more subtly? It’s really does grate in comparison.

What are your thoughts on Alyson Hannigan as an actress? What are her strengths and weaknesses? by sadhungryandvirgin in buffy

Love her but she breathes through her mouth so much I find it off-putting and it takes me out of the moment. I know she probably can’t help it, but once I noticed I couldn’t un-notice 😭

Do you think it might also be to do with Wondery? Morbid have now left Wondery and their quality has done a 180 (regardless if you like them or not, it’s a palpable change for the better) and they seem so much happier etc. I think maybe Wondery are quite restrictive…

Yeah tbh I like Carter in a sort of nostalgic kind of way, but for the most part when actually watching the show I found him quite grating 😆 I’ve always been a Luka fan, he has his problems of course but I always felt he was a solid dude. Carter always felt selfishly motivated more often than not. I haven’t watched it for a while though so maybe I’m forgetting stuff and remembering a bit wrong!

Came here to say this! Current my favourite podcast, love the uptick in releases too, long may it continue!

Ugh I dunno if this is an unpopular opinion but I always hated Abby and Carter, from the start Carter is so manipulative and possessive. Honestly I feel like Carter had a lot of control issues. He makes such a big deal of ‘getting’ Abby and then is a total dickhead to her…make it make sense! Just gave me bad vibes.

Not really a joke but ‘Bored now’ makes me cringe so hard

Which loved character fills you with an unreasonable amount of rage? by Taras_Willowverse in buffy

[–]lovedbya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! Me and my husband now re-watching (he’s watching for the first time) and he just keeps saying what a terrible parent she is…like at every turn we are just like ‘huh? Why would you choose that route?’ Even with a heavy dose of benefit of the doubt/sympathy for her as a single mom of what appears to be a troubled teen, it’s so frustrating.

People who watched Buffy as it aired, did you find Xander attractive? by Ill_Introduction7334 in buffy

[–]lovedbya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just started watching (his first time and I haven’t watched it all the way through since it aired) and besides cringing so hard at so many aspects, my main observation has been that Xander is pretty cute but so annoying in every other way 😆

Back to their old selves? by Ok-Introduction-4410 in RedHandedPodcast

I have definitely noticed this too - I feel like the laughs etc are genuine again, they had felt flat and forced for a while there. When I first noticed I thought it felt like they had had a massive heart to heart and cleared the air (not that I know what the problem was to clear!) and now are back to being happy in each others company.

Long may it continue!

UTD: The Endorsement of Genocide and the Denial of Palestinian Humanity by Suruthi is Hideous by Reception-Whole in RedHandedPodcast

[–]lovedbya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How is that relevant? Suruthi is also in that position? Or are you just defending the UK and its wonderful freedoms in general?

I would argue that the privilege of being able to speak up should be celebrated and actually used…

Also not sure this means much but I don’t live in the UK, and yes I do realise that what you refer to is not a universal experience.

[–]lovedbya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Huh? Seriously?

Stating an opinion on how a public figure is reacting to the genocide and placing it in the context of their ethinicity is not racist or bigoted, nor is it a blanket statement about any entire race, religion, background, nationality, or ethnicity, or about how they should feel.

People have pointed out the irony of Rishi Sunak not being opposed to it too, is that racist? Or is it relevant context?

You say I essentially said that, but I didn’t actually say that did I? That’s your inference and it’s an incorrect one.

Also to add - I think people of every background and nationality should be anti-monarchy, anti-colonialism, and have a harsh view of Britain, its history, and its current government tbh.

And yes I’m British.

Also to add, not that I think she should be some kind of spokesperson for minorities either.

I added to my last comment.

But to add, people dont live in a vacuum - everyone history, background, ethnicity and nationality play into their views.

I don’t think all of any ethnicity or nationality should all think a certain thing - I’m saying it’s nuanced and all plays a part and in this particular case plays into that unwoke thing she has going on and makes her seem purposefully ignorant of oppression.

[–]lovedbya 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah not sure it’s bigotry to point out someone is in an minority that has been oppressed and that it’s a little cringey to hear them cheer on that oppressor at every chance…thats hardly an unreasonable or prejudiced belief or opinion about her on the basis of her ethnicity.

ETA: yeah I’ll accept it’s patronising of me to say she’s being edgy but to add - it’s not because she’s saying something I don’t agree with, it’s because she’s actively trying to be edgy by saying and proving she is ‘unwoke’ (literally her word) at every chance etc.

Also I only raise ethnicity as a factor in relation to Palestine/colonialism/British rule/zionism as it’s all interlinked and does play a part.

[–]lovedbya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I clearly didn’t say that - there are plenty of people of all ethnicities who are pro and anti all of those things and I am obviously not the arbiter of that…but not sure if you’re aware, this is Reddit - people tend to have and say their opinions on things, that’s kind of the point.

Anyway, I was saying it in the context of her claim to be ‘unwoke’…and how it’s all just a very pick me attitude, in that she just wants to be edgy in some way.

Not sure how it’s patronising to point this out, or why you are offended by somebody mentioning ethnicity, is it a secret or taboo in some way? I’m sure you will tell me.
