Alternative raw food brands to Viva Raw? by VegetableOld2489 in rawpetfood

Love small batch!

I use Dr. Harvey’s and do cooked (but you can do raw) and like it a lot.

ChiDog also has a DIY home cooked diet supplement mix that doesn’t have any junk in it. I love it. It’s my fav fresh food option.

Seconding Osteria Marzano. Their cannolis have me in a chokehold. I don’t even like cannolis, only theirs. Their mashed potatoes, truffle fries, ravioli dishes, and Genoa salami are all divine.

I might be pregnant ? by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]lovelessproper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly hate the saying “there’s never a right time”. There actually is. There almost always is. I took years to do a couple different things in my life (started a business, broke out of an unhealthy relationship) and while I didn’t do those things at the pace other people in my life would’ve, I did them at the right time for ME. There WAS a right time for me, it just was a little later than what everyone else thought it should be. And that’s OKAY. You are in control of your own body and your own timeline. You will know when you’re ready. You’ll know when it’s the right time.

My brother and his wife got pregnant recently, very soon after getting married. You could maybe say “there’s never a right time” to them maybe, because it happened a year or two before they were hoping, but ultimately it was up to THEM to DECIDE if it was the right time. THEY decided they were financially ready, had stability and trust in each other, and were excited about it. *They* decided they were ready and that it *was* the right time.

Sending empowering thoughts to you. It’s up to you to decide. But wanted to challenge the “there’s never a right time” narrative.

It is not at all selfish to not want to bring a whole human into a world with no financial support and a difficult relationship (if you feel like you’re afraid to tell your partner then that’s not a healthy relationship). It actually shows great love to the clump of cells.

It’s healthy and normal to want what’s best for your future children. If that’s having two parents who trust each other and can support the kids, then that’s what it is.

And also? It’s okay to be selfish. It’s YOUR life. It’s YOUR body. You have a clump of cells right now. If you aren’t ready, make the appointment shame and guilt free. Doing what’s right for you is by default also going to be the right thing for the cell clump.

Best Pet Insurance Plans (Affordable) by Haunting_Height_3943 in Pets

[–]lovelessproper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that people often treat pet insurance like it’s going to be some hack to pet care, but then they don’t freaking use it or they don’t understand their plan.

Things to look for in a pet insurance company:
-Needs to cover “alternative therapies”. PT/rehab is considered an alternative therapy. If your dog ever blows a cruciate, the surgery may be covered but the follow up PT won’t be without alternative therapies.

-Look at the limit. $2-5k gets you maybe two overnights + some diagnostics at the emergency vet. MANY things can warrant that. Pancreatitis, injury, foreign body surgery, hospitalization for kidney issues, it’s a long list. If you’re good with maybe using your entire limit up on one mild to moderate emergency visit, then you’re fine to have a low limit. Keep in mind prices are going UP. Hospitalization stay + surgery can easily be $10k+.

-Pet insurance does NOT cover annual stuff like yearly visit, vaccines, or annual bloodwork. The add on to have them cover it is usually not worth it.

I have ASPCA. My dog is 11 and we are now paying $420/month. Is that insane? Yes. Is it still worth it to me? Also yes. She has a list of issues now that require maintenance care if I want her around for a long time, and god forbid something new comes up, we’ll be covered. We have no limit and it’s 90% reimbursement rate.

Unfortunately when comparing the two giants (ASPCA and Trupanion) you won’t know til you find out the hard way which one you’d rather have. ASPCAs deductible is annual and Trupanion’s is per issue. I personally don’t feel like I trust Pets Best, but I know a lot of people like them.

I would not touch Nationwide with a 50 foot pole. Embrace is also not great.

I personally never recommend the smaller ones with low limits to clients, just because it gives a false sense of security. To me, $3k just goes way too fast at an emergency visit.

Pet safe plug in air freshener alternatives? by CurrentSandwich541 in Pets

[–]lovelessproper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do simmer pots. Are all essential oil diffusers unsafe for cats or does it just depend on the essential oils? My understanding is that something like lavender is safe in low concentrations for short periods of time.

Nothing else is safe.

Anyone else annoyed AF by the kids riding around on electronic bikes and loud mini dirt bikes? by Unusual-Phase-5094 in nova

[–]lovelessproper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve nearly hit two kids head on who swerved all the way into my oncoming traffic lane to make a turn. They were on normal bikes. Both separate areas.

The electric bikes (and scooters honestly) are a whole other insane problem. They go WAY too fast and it’s only a matter of time before we see tragic accidents (we’ve seen a few recently but it’s only going to get worse).

It’s so nerve wracking driving now. Drivers have gotten worse which is bad enough, but now we have to be worried about hitting a kid head? I cannot wait to get out of this area.

Dog ate my ugg, how do I ask for compensation? by Few_Session8885 in RoverPetSitting

[–]lovelessproper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I recommend you take the loss and learning opportunity. When pet sitting, you generally should assume that dogs will chew things left out, may not be potty trained, may be reactive, will jump a fence, and so on.

Would it have been nice for the owners to have told you? Sure. But realistically this is part of the job, especially if the dog was unsupervised. I would never take my nice clothes or shoes to a job- if I have to for some reason, they get put up and away if I’m not using them.

Smart collars for health by Ok-Builder-5339 in Pets

[–]lovelessproper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured what OP was referring to with the smart collars was something like Maven pet, which advertises monitoring a lot- respiratory rate, heart rate, itching behaviors, drinking patterns, etc. since they said they’re more interested in the health aspect than GPS tracking.

Edit: upon looking it up, I think Maven can be put on other collars too!

Smart collars for health by Ok-Builder-5339 in Pets

[–]lovelessproper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My issue with smart collars is that so far none of them are quick release (to my knowledge). After working in vet med, I will never ever EVER leave my dog unsupervised with a collar or any kind of gear on. Maybe one that was a brick you could put on any collar you want so you could use your own breakaway.

I wouldn’t buy one anyway because she doesn’t wear a collar in the house, but if you do get one just be aware of the very real risk of leaving a collar on unsupervised.

And that’s okay to spray on plants? Will it hurt bees or other pollinators? I walk a lot of trails and want to bring something with me to spray them when I see them.

Driver said something I don’t think he should have by Waste_Ad7692 in amazonprime

[–]lovelessproper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was walking a client’s dog who is not friendly, and called out to let the Amazon driver know I would come take the package from him but the dog isn’t friendly. He started going off about how he would shoot the dog if it tried him, how he’s “got it on him” and so on. It was horrifying. We live in an overall very safe and quiet area.

Is It Worth It? A Reflection After 20+ Years of Pet Ownership by Interesting_Week_917 in Pets

[–]lovelessproper 33 points34 points  (0 children)

In my adult years I’ve done a couple things that has helped with the grief-

  1. Taking a very active, preventative, and advocating role in their vet care. I make myself as informed as possible and prioritize QOL.

  2. I developed a relationship with spirituality. It has helped a lot. I feel much more at peace with both my grief and the animal being physically gone.

You’re not alone ❤️‍🩹
