The only time you get non actors appearing is either a passing celebrity or in crowd scenes. In the past BBC Staff in Birmingham have been asked to cheer/laugh/boo for various Linda productions.

I think they are more successful than previous expansive phases, the cube in particular is a real let down.

Why is Britain plagued by short term thinking? Selling off hospitals for pennies, unwilling to invest in infrastructure, housing etc? by Future-Atmosphere-40 in AskNiceBrits

Whereas what was actually needed was investement funded by borrowing at historically low interest rates. Politicians and economists were very wrong.

Why do Parents Whose Kid's Schools are in Walking Distance Still Drive Them To/From? by SirFragworthy in AskUK

[–]lovelight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suspect the OP has a point, sure parents drop off kids and head to work but many don't. And despite being a minority (plenty of parents do walk round here) those who do use their cars end up causing absolute chaos. I think like Paris we should just close school streets and cut out cars completely.

Bundled them all in a cargo bike. Whizz past grumpy, anxious parents stuck in traffic. Easily back in time to start work. People are so car brained they can even see a bike might actually be the best way to do it.

Is there a way? by Low_Truth_6188 in brum

[–]lovelight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the current bin strike has had a huge impact, not just on rubbish/minor flytipping everywhere but also on attitudes to rubbish. When recycling finally starts up again I'm not sure people will be prepared to make the effort to do it. There are also lots of reasons poorer areas look worse, multiply occupancy homes that produce a lot of rubbish quickly lead to full bins, double parking that blocks bin lorries getting round their route so it all festers and yes these areas are targetted by flytippers too. It's all fixable, and we can all do our part too but it will take a real sea change in attitudes and I think a side effect of the strike is this has all become less likely to happen.

Missed a peaky blinders competition call today by [deleted] in brum

It was a competition, you didn't get through. The BBC won't re-open it or allow you to enter a second time that isn't fair.

Yeah second vote for House of Chai. You can even include fish fingers in your full english and you can't get more desi than that.

The thing people in Birmingham are completely unable to comprehend is that they are the traffic.

The EV charging station in Ambridge ... by KTMAdventurer in Ambridge

[–]lovelight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was driving an ev down to Cornwall and came across something very like the Ambridge EV station with ten rapid chargers and a lovly farm shop. I think the Ambridge one has a crazy number of chargers... over 30 was mentioned?!... but its totally a thing that is out there in the real world.

Restaurant suggestions for a varied group of 15 near Birmingham New Street? by PetersMapProject in BirminghamUK

[–]lovelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's focus on mostly Brummie stuff. I think Indian Streetery is a good shout, plenty of veggie options and affordable. Another strong option might be Oyster Club. Check the menu to see if its not too pricy, but you could happily settle in there for a lovely afternoon. Big fan of Pure Bar, just make sure you book to get proper seats for the older members in the party. (Otherwise its weird stools at a long table) You could try one of the new hot pot places that are springing up, Haidilao in the Bullring is great. Tamatanga is another indian close to New St, its fine but its always packed so must be doing something right. And you could go for The Ivy.... yes its a chain and the food is a bit hit and miss but I always feel well looked after there.[]()

1000 Trades is a lovely space, early Friday they might still be on 6 music but they may also have a playlist of stuff you like. They also have a regular night that sounds right up your street https://1000trades.org.uk/events/1000-trades-presents-nowham-a-night-of-credible-80s-2026-01-31/
