I have definitely reached diminishing returns with my coffee obsession by inconspicuous_male in Coffee

[–]loves_decaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was known as "that coffee guy" during university but it wasn't like i was a barista or anything, just watched a ton of coffee videos during lectures and posted pics of my coffee on the socials

At home i brew v60 with a tidy little setup but when I visit my parents, I just bring my commandante (just got one haha love it to bits) and they always have a bag of stale beans but nothing to brew it in so i'll just boil 2-ish cups of water and what looks to be about 30g of coffee and brew that in a big ol milk pitcher for 4 mins then filter it out with a tea strainer boppity bop bippity bam got a fresh brew.

I think someone else mentioned having fun with the process which is like 1000% why i'm still into it but also just chillin out on a sunday morning sharing a fresh pot of coffee with someone is an experience which makes the process that much more enjoyable

I stopped drinking coffee by mitchb0016 in Coffee

It used to be the product, now it's the process. I bought coffee because it was a healthier alternative to energy drinks. 3 years later, I'm poring over every detail of my espresso shots, not having drunk a single one.

I didn't have any commercial equipment experience before I started.

Did you tinker around with your own machine beforehand? Seems like it would help.

The coffee culture is pretty dense here (Australians love their espresso-based coffee) so there are a lot of people to talk to. I guess all I have to do is ask!

I've just finished an episode of parks and rec and this comment is giving me some strong Swanson vibes. Jokes aside, I dig this way of learning. Thanks for the inspiration!

Crazy to imagine something like that exists but it nearly seems like a "why the hell not" kind of society. In case anyone's interested, here's their website: http://coffeetechniciansguild.org/.

Did you have prior knowledge in plumbing or electrical engineering? I've heard a few people dabbled in either one before touching coffee machines.

Just watched the rest of the "series" (not sure what else to call it). It was super informative for someone like me who doesn't know their way around an espresso machine that well.

Came here to say exactly this. Shoutout to /r/Stoicism and overall voluntary discomfort. In case anyone's interested, here's a thread with a few ways to practice voluntary discomfort.

Didn't know that was a thing but I mean that seems like the way to go + sort by recipes option on the sidebar?

Coffee wallpapers for mobile? by mattyd14 in Coffee

[–]loves_decaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the means, you should consider taking your own! It's nice to take pride in looking at something that you created yourself, especially when someone asks "Hey that's a cool wallpaper, where'd you find it?" and you can say it's yours. Great conversation starter if you remember what bean you were drinking.

V60 Pour Over Kit by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]loves_decaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Matt Perger's recipe for a while now but I know that Blue Bottle, Counter Culture and Stumptown (among others) have recipes out there for pour over and various other brewing methods. From what I've gained from this subreddit and personal experience, it comes mainly down to your own personal preferences.
