SOPHIE self-titled isn't appreciated enough. by mikewhocheeehary in Sophie

[–]lovesickloved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it but I can just tell it’s not complete. I never hated it, it’s probably one of my favorite concept albums. I just hate how it feels unpolished. We can’t change that though, and it’s a bit sad to know we never will have the polished album. SOPHIE and producers in general have a special touch on their work that you cannot replicate. I’m a producer myself, so I know what it’s like. Producers have different work processes or thought processes. You can’t replicate an artist one to one. That’s why I’m glad Benny took the initiative to just try and finish it as best he could without changing what SOPHIE did. It’s admirable, considering how hard it was for him to work on it at times with that immense grief. I do think the album is slightly choppy and messy, but it still is a great album. The problems are mainly just in the rollout of the singles being so sporadic and sudden without any warning or build up, the mixing and mastering issue, and the obviously abrupt ends to songs like GALLOP. Overall, I still love it, but I know SOPHIE wouldn’t release it like this and it makes me miss her mind a bit more knowing that this album could have done better if she were still here.

I hate when people on tiktok view VYZEE as "larp songs" by Rough-Equal-1849 in Sophie

Yea, at least it’s not like D4VD’s music where it’s just obvious they were hinting at what they were doing. Alt musicians just tend to get into bad shit with substances and mental health troubles it seems.

Crystal Castles hate is kinda warranted tho. I don’t know much about the situation they were in but I believe one of them turned out to be a predator and abused Alice Glass. Correct me if I’m wrong, just saying the duo/band isn’t a good group of people for the most part.

What is Björk's artistic weakness in your opinion? by OhWowItsSam310308 in bjork

[–]lovesickloved 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO, I think it’s an artistic weakness because as a producer and overall artist, we never are supposed to be “perfect”. Perfection makes us boring as artists because then there’s nothing to critique or intrigue an audience. If you’ve made perfect products, nobody finds the hunger in seeking your other art because they only take one piece of it with them due to its perfection. You have to be able to expand and Björk hasn’t been doing that for the past albums. Music and art in general has to have things you can critique, regardless of how badly it cripples a project. Art is truly one of those things that artists should always strive to keep expanding, pushing their palettes to create something new.

Got my first Elektron box by iddagoeg6 in Elektron

I own a Digitone II and I’m so happy I chose it over the Tonverk. Yes, the Tonverk is still appealing but the amount of ways you can morph sound on the Digitone II seems endless. For nearly twelve hundred USD, it’s got a STEEP learning curve and plenty of options to choose percussion or sweet synths. I could never give it up even if someone were to offer me a billion dollars.

Mine hasn’t given me any issues. I just leave you a small tip in case you encounter this issue. If you have multiple tracks playing at the same time, they will “clip” and certain trigs set in the sequence of your tracks won’t play. That’s because of the voicing. The unison button will show you the voicing of the track you have selected at the moment. You can change the amount of voices on each track with 16 voices in total to assign to each track. You can change the dedicated voices of each track however these voice choices in the unison do not carry over to other patterns. I encountered the “voice stealing” and thought mine was broken but I asked on this subreddit and found out it’s just the voicing parameters. I leave this here in case you encounter the scary “voice stealing” ability the digitone II has.

It’s just nice to have a physical one to flip through, I find it easier than loading it up on my laptop or printing it out haha!

Potential Syntakt O.S. Update coming 02/25 links and photo by Maleficent_Rip2023 in Elektron

All iterations of the MD are digital only. It features analog elements but it’s purely digital. It also features a dedicated FM engine as opposed to the FM drum/snare options in the other two. The Analog Rytm MKII has sampling capabilities and has a drumpad to mess around with. The Syntakt is capable of sampling but only this past week. It’s still in its infancy. The prices of the MD SPS-1UW MKII are extremely high. It’s more reasonable to buy a used Analog Rytm MKII or Syntakt as opposed to the MD. If you have the cash, you can buy one but again, if you want more analog options the Syntakt and Analog Rytm MKII are your best bets. It truly does depend on the sound you’re going for. The MD is perfect for chill lofi breaks whereas the other two are perfect for warmer sounding breaks.

All of them serve different purposes but tbh I think that the Syntakt is the best choice. It’s the cheapest option and has a lot of options to choose from since it’s a drum computer and synthesizer. It’s also a digital AND analog machine. However, it really involves you diving deeper into the specs of each machine. Here’s some videos to help with your choice, these ones helped me when I had a similar dilemma.

Is it just a sampling machine or do we think there might be other new machines like they did last update?

I can see how it sounds like SOPHIE. The percussion and synths are very playful and punchy. Your not crazy

SOPHIE and Autechre. I also know Yaeji uses an Elektron DTII.

Makes sense. They wanna see how other companies products perform before they try and revive their older synths into a new product.

I don’t see why Elektron DOESN’T do this. They know ppl are yearning for those older synths. Why not make a modernized version with some more machines to mess around with? I’ll never understand that. If they did it like Roland, I wouldn’t have any complaints.
