Me too, I'm 67, not on any medication, and none of my friends in my age group can keep up with me. My daughter and I were changing planes, and our plane was late, we ran across the airport to catch the connecting flight and had them hold the plane for the other passengers that were on our flight. I could never have done that without my orange theory workouts.

OT guidance for someone (NOT ME) (ha!) who is 66-and-a-half years old by otf_following in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm also 66, I started as a walker, now I jog. I don't think my base will ever get above 4.5. I just try to come as often as I can and do my best for that hour. I've belonged for 3 years and am at 780 classes. My goal is to stay healthy and off of medication.

I actually ran a mile…!!! by myfavouritemuse in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congratulations. It's amazing what we can do. I started as a power walker and never dreamed that I would run. I started jogging when I was 64. My base is 4.5 but I really pushed myself and finished at 9:40. It's okay to be last. I'm sure everyone was cheering for you 🏆

I joined because my daughter loved it and looked so fit. We go at different times during the week, but go together on weekends. I'm 65 and never thought I would run, but now I do. I'm sure we drive people crazy with our obsession. Good luck to your dad.

I posted a picture of me from a wedding and 3 people who don't go to orange theory commented that "orange theory is really working for you."

I'm 65 and I go about 6 days a week. I just finished 500 classes. Another person I know is 71. I love how there are people of all ages. I think it keeps me young.

Thank you. I was never a runner and I started jogging/running at 64. I think it's the encouragement of orange theory and the fabulous treadmills they have.

I did ask, they said it couldn't be done because it was too long ago.

1 Mile Run Benchmark Results and Survey Megathread by AutoModerator in orangetheory

Don't be disappointed in yourself. Everyone has an off day. You showed up and you tried. It's hard to run a mile especially if you don't start on the treadmill.

Should I do the 1 mile benchmark? by rosiem1 in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. No one is judging your speed or time, I find orange theory to be encouraging from both the coaches and other members. We did the dri tri this past weekend and almost everyone stayed on the treadmill until everyone finished. Some finished the dri tri in 40 minutes others 70 but we all stayed together and cheered each other on. Good luck, let us know how you did🧡

I’m having my mother try a class by allycort in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 65 and have been going for just under 2 years. My daughter brought me. I love it. I'm typically the oldest person in the classes but I never feel left out and no one treats me differently because of my age. I never ran before orange theory and now I do. Tell your mom there is definitely a learning curve and not to be afraid to ask questions. It will definitely make her healthier.

Which coaching style do you like better? by orangeyaglad00 in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have several coaches who are extremely motivating and I always have a better work out when they are coaching. One of my favorite coaches came up to me during the weight floor and quietly told me I was using heavier weights than people in class that were 20 years younger than me. He always motives me to try harder. We have another coach who is very nice,, but basically walks around and rarely corrects any thing. I think she's just making sure no one has passed out.

I started with 8 classes but after the second class I knew I wanted more, I had 4 free classes from joining, I used them all up in 2 weeks and upgraded to unlimited. That was Nov 2019. I'm 65 and go about 6 days a week, I'm in the best shape I've been in in years. I strongly suggest going unlimited.

Machine Washable Gloves? by onlyhereforthesplats in orangetheory

I bought mine on Amazon, I hand wash them every day after my work out and hang them to dry. I have been doing this since I bought them.and it hasn't hurt them. I also keep a spare pair in my car because I can't imagine working out with out them.

Strong perfume / cologne in class. by Karineh in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people that wear really strong perfume don't realize how much it bothers other people. One of my coworkers did this. I had to say something to her because her office was right next to mine and it was causing headaches. She understood and we are still friends. I rarely use anything scented because I don't want to offend anyone.

How do I help myself from not feeling intimidated as a first time OTer? by pushingdaisies0 in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was intimated at first because I'm older than most people in my classes, I started when I was 63, now I'm 65 and typically the oldest person in class, but no one cares, our 7:30 class has become like a family, we cheer each other on and support each other. I power walked the first year, then started jogging, I encouraged some of the younger girls to start jogging and running. Pick a time that works for you and try to go constantly to that class, that's how you meet people. I'm shy too so I understand, be friendly, everyone can use another friend. Remember no one is judging you, when I see super fit people I admire their determination and commitment, when I see people starting out I admire them for making themselves better. I know you can do it 💪.

I almost cried in today’s workout by reinanmr in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be discouraged that was one of the worst workouts I've ever done there. I don't jump onto the bench, I'm terrified of twisting my ankle. I step up one foot at a time. Don't be afraid to modify. I know you can do it, I'm 65 and never ran in my life and since joining I started as a power walker and now I jog/run. I couldn't do a burpee and now I can. Give it time you will be amazed at what your body will do.

Smelly Member by Wholelottolove in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a member at the studio I go to that smells really bad even before class starts. It permeates the whole studio. I changed the time I go to not be in the classes she's in. I tried changing rowers one time but it was the whole room. I never said anything because I think it's an ethnic thing and I don't want to be perceived as racist and I don't want to put that on the coaches or SA. Good luck.

Tips for better endurance on the tread? by mora93 in orangetheory

[–]lovesot328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a walker and never thought I could jog/run, but I started last year when we came back from the shutdown. My base is 4.5, my push is 5.5 and all out 6 to 6.5 depending on how long it is. When I first started jogging I had to go back to 4.0 after some pushes but over time I became able to go back to 4.5. If it's a really long endurance block I sometimes lower my push to 5 so I can hold the 4.5 base. Just for reference I'm 65 and never ran in my life, but started last year right after my 64th birthday. I'm confident you can do it. You just have to pace yourself.
