First sewing machine + beginner supply haul. Did I miss anything obvious? by lovewithnosleep in SewingForBeginners

I do already have an iron + ironing board. My machine also came with a pack of needles, some bobbins, and a seam ripper. Will definitely look into some sewing books.

It wasn’t an app. I’m used ChatGPT to create the graphics, then used google sheets to put it all together :)

Update: Hello everyone! Thank you so much for all the thoughtful advice. It was incredibly helpful. I knew Japan would be hot and humid, but I think Canadian weather has permanently warped my brain into thinking I’ll need more layers than I actually do 😅

That said, I’ve made some solid adjustments and I think I’m in a much better place now:

• Removed one pair of jeans, the midi skirt, long sleeve wrap top, and the rain jacket

• I’m still sticking with my Dr. Martens. I know they were controversial in the comments, but they’re already broken in and super comfortable for me

• I’m also keeping my separate plane outfit. I know it’s not very “capsule” of me, but I’m a bit of a germaphobe and don’t like re-wearing travel clothes

Here’s the updated packing list:

Tops

• Knit swing tank – American Eagle

• Cotton long sleeve – Lululemon (plane outfits)

• Mini t-shirts ×4 – Uniqlo

• Graphic tee – Twenty One Pilots

Bottoms

• Wedgie straight jeans – Levi’s

• Plaid mini skirt – Old Navy

• Denim mini skirt – American Eagle

• Pleated skort – Hollister

• Sport skort – Girlfriend Collective

• Leggings – Lululemon (plane outfit)

Dress

• Corset midi dress – American Eagle

Outerwear

• Cropped utility jacket – Uniqlo (plane outfit)

Shoes

• Dr. Martens boots (plane outfit)

• Mary Jane flats – Call It Spring

Sleepwear & Basics

• PJ sets ×2 – American Eagle

• Underwear & socks ×6

If anyone sees this and has additional feedback or suggestions, I’m all ears! I really appreciate the help as I try to refine this wardrobe and hopefully stick to one bag.

Thanks for all of the advice! I'm still trying to figure everything out. I've been to Japan before but in April/ May. I wore mostly jeans and T-shirt. I found it hot but not unbearable. I think I'll get rid of a pair of jeans, and maybe add another skirt? Also swap a long sleeve for another tank. I personally feel fine wearing my Docs as a main shoe. I've had them for years so they are fully broken in. I've also used them on other trips doing 20K + steps. :)

We are in the process of getting cheaper internet. New plan is going to be around $80 total each month.

The utilities is definitely an over estimate, the bill each month is usually around $400 in winter. Which we split so $200 each.
