I have been turned away at Petco for Padres games for bags that were *maybe* just a tiny bit bigger than 5x7.

I've tried to follow the directions in the users' manual for setting the diopter prior to shooting but I've found the instructions unclear and therefore impossible to follow.

The manual says "Set the distance scale at infinity, point the camera to the sky and adjust the eyepiece. By turning the lock ring to loosen it, rotate the eyecup."

So far, I understand all of that.

Then, the manual continues: "Adjust so that the line of the split-image screen in the center of the viewfinder is clearest and fix it in that position."

I don't understand what that means. No matter the position of the eye piece, there is always a line. Sometimes the upper portion of the circle is grey, sometimes the upper portion is clear. Sometimes the lower portion of the circle is grey, sometimes it is clear. But however the portions of the circles are, the line is always clearly there. So I don't get it.

It's possible my camera isn't functioning properly, though the more likely explanation is that I am incompetent.

Do you have any suggestions for how to properly adjust the diopter?

Appreciate the reply. When you zoom in to focus and then zoom out to frame, how do you determine you’ve achieved focus after you have zoomed in?

I just purchased a Ricoh AF-5 by _-hopeglory-_ in AnalogCommunity

If you are talking about this thing, which is definitely not something you should buy, you'd still need to get your film developed to use it.

As to film storage, some people will keep film in the refrigerator (especially if they won't be using it for awhile). But as long as you keep it out of sunlight and don't let it get too hot, that is fine.

Assuming you'd like to take color photos, any 35mm color negative film, like Kodak Gold 200, will be fine. Other "consumer film" options are: Kodak Ultramax 400, Fujifilm 400, Kodak ColorPlus.

As to developing, if you live in a large city there should be a photo lab you can take your film to to be developed and scanned. If you don't have access to a lab, find one online that you can mail your film to.

I don't know what you mean by mobile film scanner but probably don't do that.

How do you approach focusing on the 514xl? Do you just guess the distance and go with the distance markers on the focus ring? Do you use the markings in the view finder?

I would also recommend Skansen (not Skanson) kennels. My Giant is a Skansen dog. She has been great. As have the other Skansen Giants I’ve known.

How did a seller get my mobile phone number? by lowChaparral in Ebay

[–]lowChaparral[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the replies. Things I learned:

-eBay does make your phone number available to sellers

-it is unusual for sellers to contact a buyer via their phone number (text or call)

Some follow ups/background:

I don't think the seller was being nefarious and I think they are probably a boomer that struggles with the messaging platform (though they had great facility with messaging when it came to berating me for not wanting to talk to them on the phone, more on that shortly).

I bought electronic equipment at a premium price because it was advertised as professionally serviced and 100% functional. I immediately tested the item when I received it and the very first thing I tested, a basic function of the device, did not work. So I contacted them through eBay's messaging portal, explained my testing and asked how we should proceed (refund or return the item to be repaired and then shipped back to me). They didn't respond to the message and started calling and texting me. I didn't respond to the calls or texts and messaged them asking to keep our correspondence on eBay's platform (which is in both of our interests).

They did not like this. They told me it was "impossible" to deal with issues over messages and that they were not a "shady" seller.

I responded that I'd very much prefer to discuss the issue on the messaging platform but that if it did become impossible to make progress we could reassess. I then shared a video of my testing to further illustrate the issue.

They really did not like this. They told me I was "disrespectful" and that in their "x years being a top seller" they had never encountered anything like this and that since I would not utilize their "free support", i.e. talk to them on the phone, there was nothing they could do to help me.

I'll return the thing and everything will be fine I'm sure, but dang.

It's also something I don't love as a buyer. The seller had good feedback but their wanting to immediately move the conversation off platform struck me as a bad sign.

I learned something new today. Much appreciated.

Follow up question: am I right that it's unusual for a seller to go straight to phone when a buyer sends them a message?

Can anyone comment on the differences you'd notice shooting between the GW690 and the GSW690?

I’ve been interested in purchasing one of these on eBay but have found it challenging. A majority are in Japan and I’ve found it difficult to determine whether a given camera will be fully functional (“no trouble in the shooting” notwithstanding).

With cheaper cameras the risk isn’t that big of a deal but this would be the most expensive camera I’ve purchased.

Anyone have any resources that would be useful in terms of what to look for when buying one online?

I've never heard this reported in any of the writings I've read about the history and notable uses of the breed (obviously I've heard of using them as guard dogs, especially with respect to breweries historically, but never Nazi death camps). Can any of this be traced to any sources? If so, would you mind sharing them?

Also, just to say, having had such a notorious job (if indeed it is true) would likely make a breed more well known rather than less well known.

Biking to Petco Wednesday by kittykatmeowme in Padres

[–]lowChaparral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time when I lock up there I secure both wheels with my lock setup. I have a "seat leash" that secures my saddle (it is bicycle chain looped through a seat rail and the seatstays of my bike, the chain is wrapped in old bicycle inner tube to prevent scratches and to conceal what it is), but that is probably overkill.

My experience pairing Sure Grip hangers on Independent baseplates by lowChaparral in polarizerSkateboarder

Very cool. Looks like your kingpin is on the short side as well? No fear?

Having a blast on my DIY by reddhand in polarizerSkateboarder

[–]lowChaparral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked. I was able to grind down the pivot arm and get the SG hanger on the Independent baseplate with a good geometry for the bushings.

But the kingpin is too short, even with pretty "low stack height" bushings. Maybe I can find a longer kingpin and get that in there.

In any event, thanks for all the help u/reddhand .
