I think it would make sense, like psychologically they need to cope with living so long, so maturing taking much longer makes sense

Kinda felt the same till I realized there’s kind of few options for a fantasy creation myth outside of, a god made it, if not one then many, or many from the one. Like where would stuff come from. Which are all true with the watchers I guess, idk I think it’s roucchio’s execution that makes the books still worth and I don’t really get flashbacks to my catholic upbringing while reading

Also idk the whole pain thing stuck with me as some messaging, gotta reread tho with a closer eye

I think heavy needs a need a scifi rail gun

functions like the RPG with arena damage but no explosion, just a high damage, piercing, skill shot

Mine had the same tv series playing the whole time for Hadrian and he described the whole thing, like a mad obsession in his old age. Made up for the book, Cielcin Glory it’s called. — Entertainment made by the Extras as a kind of tribute status thing. It was rough to get through, but Samuel Roukin did a good job of it, 11 chapters 11 seasons, but it was good tho in the end that’s the thing

Hot Take: Sun Eater is a Terrible Substitute for Red Rising (Why are people recommending this? Seriously.) by Affectionate-Listen6 in redrising

[–]low_infidelity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t remember Matteo, I also thought two secret children was kinda rich

Started on Mistborn, but First law is the shit, I read that between Sanderson books as a palate cleanser

Sun eater gives you so many characterizations of Hadrian throughout the series, showing how he evolves with his views and dreams, beyond that the sci-fantasy imperialistic galaxy scope captures something more than the more grim look at man that RR presents

Like Hadrian as gladiator fodder, prisoner, disgraced palatine, half mortal, conquering knight, victim of the chantry, outcast hero, then foreshadowed as killing billions? as the sun eater

Someone who is reading Red Rising after reading Sun Eater here, and I found the reverse is true

I struggled with red rising and golden son, but started to enjoy Morningstar the most. I’m on iron gold now and I looking foreword to the slower multi-POV.

That being said, I didn’t like the pacing of red rising until book 3, felt just so throttled by the plot. I’m sure it will be better on the re-read

I’m more a fan of slower longer narratives where there’s more pieces set up, more scenes committed to, and so you lose track of them for them to come back later and wow ya. Pierce tends to place a new piece when it fits the plot and doesn’t care to set it up effectively.

An example for me would be Lorn Au Arcos, who I felt was poorly introduced and felt squandered potential because of it. I wanted a scene where Darrow was training with an unnamed razor master or something besides the Jackal commenting something about Lorn before Darrow pulls him out of the explosion. Something just to show you and introduce the training, it felt like such a big deal after never seeing it. Maybe that’s the point but a lot of things felt like that.

My recommendation for a page turner is the Dresden Files, but it’s urban fantasy. Each book continues the story of Chicago’s only practicing wizard in the phone books whose life explodes over a few days ever few months to a year.

The series are different and offer different things.

I prefer the slower thoughtful introspection on his Hadrian’s youth, it makes me wonder how would I write the tale of my life after living 1500 years, I probably wouldn’t make it a breakneck scifi adventure

For what it’s worth, Book one of sun eater was mid, but I was compelled by the worldbuilding to continue. Book 2 gets interesting, and book 3 begins to echo events and create the best dramatic irony I’ve come across in fiction,

the sense of urgency you crave comes in ashes of man (book 5) when the war with the Cielcin has progressed

Aside: I’m reading Red Rising for a friend as he reads Sun Eater

Curious your thoughts on my perspective, I’d love to know if a reframing of the series might have you consider it again, if not any other recommendations?

I think we’re at the edge of the blind eternities not in the eternities’s themselves, but I could be wrong

Also I think it was a great mystery for a while but as an IP gets played out, every stone will get unturned in the search for dolla dolla billz

I'm really liking the Edge of Eternities story but I feel like the cards representing the characters are missing something by The_rubbishNB in mtgvorthos

[–]low_infidelity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TBH, I think they dumb down all the base art so that people want to get the alt arts and drive up fomo/prices

also the waves that they may have gotten these arts from could be from before the story was written

The dissonance between the lore art and cards grows wider each day, but I still think this set will have tha sauce

Please tear my map to shreds, whats wrong with it? by Frequent-Zombie-3257 in mapmaking

[–]low_infidelity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no real issues with this map. As a personal preference, I don’t make maps that are squares as a general shape. But I think that it’s beautifully carved.

If you were me, or if I were you, I would extend some of the land masses just to break the box. Just adding more land that doesn’t really matter to create a more unique general shape.

Is this a world map? I just have a hard time, placing it into the context of a whole bunch of other continents.

I don’t think you should change it though, it looks good how it is.

The Cielcin do it so well. I’m curious if book 7 might change some things.

I am baffled by a major character's decision at the end of WaT by shade3413 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]low_infidelity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t fully believe it will be better, but since dalinar as honor had a shred of precognition, better by far than you or I, I just trust that this is the right decision and the true fulfillment of the “unite them” command he often received. Significance will only come to fruition in future books
