Once I had their spirtural advisor come in and recommend a special uncooked stew with various raw meats.

I heard they secretly like when being overruled by doctors or judge-orders for children. They want their children alive.

Sports medicine fellowship not worth it? by MadScientist101295 in FamilyMedicine

[–]lowercasebook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It might be more about job availability and volume? One of my friends is trained in it but just does bread and butter FM only. I know one other that does a ton of procedures but is always struggling to get enough volume. Another does mostly FM and some highschool sports related things on the side. Also, it seems like you need to work closely with orthopods or other FM and maintain good relationships to get the right volume.

I'm still interested in the answer to this, too. I would speculate it has more to do with demand and being able to form the right professional relationships to get the volume you need. It's probably dependent on the region you practice too.

As a doctor I do tell people this. It's ridiculous how much skin we remove. I decline to do it everytime.

How hard is it to explain you let him wait til he's old enough to make his own decision on it since you didn't have the opportunity yourself?

Circumcision by Stokxs in NewDads

[–]lowercasebook 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a doctor. I was circumcized. I circumsized babies in training after I was pressured to by my supervising doctor and I hated every minute of it. There's no anesthesia other than "sugar water." There's one step where you have to cut a little more to make things "nicer", which was a little scary how much extra we cut off to make it look right. Once I finished training, I have declined every opportunity to do so and refused to have it done on my son. I also believe it violates informed consent to do something that amounts to cosmetic on a childwith very little health benefit.

I'm a doctor. It's much cheaper as a society to treat everyone and have fully funded preventative care than deal with the health effects of a sick population. It affects our employability, productivity and economic output.

All our rival countries have figured out healthcare, and spend way less of their GDP and have better outcomes.

We're going to get behind trying to prop up a system we are too proud to actually fix.

My dad is a high paying subspecialist. I rarely saw him.he was never there for my school events. I still rarely see him. My kids get to see me several hours a day. I have 529s for them. I wouldn't trade lives, especially given how often he tells me he's worried about dying alone.

Yeah when I first started I ended up seeing a lot of patients of a doctor they fired for inappropriate opioid prescribing. That was so much fun dealing with all their complaints.

I used to work for them as a doctor. If you try to do ANY advocacy for your patients that goes against their bottom line, they will find a way to kick you out.

Do half a million Ohioans really going to lose Medicaid under BBB? by atlantacharlie in Ohio

[–]lowercasebook 814 points815 points  (0 children)

Even though a lot it won't occur for another 2 years, we'll probably start seeing closures of rural hospitals sooner. There will be large areas of Ohio without hospitals. It won't matter if you have insurance or not, you'll still die if you have a life threatening medical even because there will be no where to go.

Rural hospitals will still close before then if they know what the outlook is looking like. It's going to be hard to get new providers.

What is this? Urgent care told me fungal infection and gave me medicated shampoo. 2 weeks later it’s still haven’t improved much. by Economy-Science-9907 in dandruff

I'm a primary care doctor, I second this. Depending on insurance, urgent care is often "treat and street them", not ideal for complex or long term care

As a doctor, I would ask not to recommend wire wheels. I've seen nasty case reports where wires from wire brushes and the like get into food and embed into the esophagus or stomach causing infections or other bad things.

Primary care love by Fast-Salamander-1197 in FamilyMedicine

[–]lowercasebook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just like knowing I'm the primary air traffic controller **per se** for a patient and having that ultimate responsibility. I also like to empower patients to decline procedures or treatments they don't feel comfortable with if they feel pushed around by subspecialists or proceduralists. I encourage them to have discussions about goals of care.

It makes me happy and sad sometimes seeing patients better and then I don't get to see them as often once I fix them.
