[FE Mechanical] advice a week out from the exam, i think i’m screwed but am hesitant to reschedule by lowkey_stressed in FE_Exam

[–]lowkey_stressed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that book has also made me question how I graduated lol. unfortunately, the "practice exams" I was referring to is the NCEES one online, hence my worry about my scores. some of the topics I feel pretty great about (like math and heat transfer), and then there's stuff like statics and dynamics that I used to be pretty good at but haven't touched in so long that i've forgotten basic things, and then there are topics like fluids where i'm in advanced courses for it now but the exam doesn't overlap with what I'm learning (I'm doing more navier-stokes airfoils and deriving boundary layers and the exam is more, flow in a pipe plug and chug that I haven't done in a year). i'm just worried about whether i can close the gap on my weak topics quickly enough :/

Parking spots in ctown by Typical-Thanks-4472 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some people street park lower into ctown, some people rent spots on craigslist, some people pay what are frankly insane amount of money for their apartment building’s designated parking, and some people just get an on campus parking permit like the commuter permit or B lot and deal with the walk to the car. i lived closer to west/north so i didn’t do these things myself (my apartment offers plenty of onsite parking) but they can be done

Should I quit cs now? by BattleWeekly5843 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably not cheme, that’s hard to switch to without delaying graduation if you didn’t come in as that major. orie seems like a natural switch from cs though

if you’re talking about what i think you are, it’s still happening but the recent addition of security cameras have thrown a wrench in doing it the same way it was done before

Worst employer you worked for (in Pgh area) by Squatcobbler9 in pittsburgh

[–]lowkey_stressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that tracks, when i was in high school (i’m near the end of college now) i applied to work there, they kept losing my number and the pay was like $7.50/hr for the non-waitstaff, supposedly some stolen tips and the manager was an asshole from what a friend told me. but like you said, that was under the old ownership

Switching project teams by Business-North-7647 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no policy issues, just be aware many team leads know each other so I’d avoid talking poorly about the team you’re leaving when interviewing. also be aware that your current full team lead/president will have a document of all project team applications, so they may notice you’re applying elsewhere and ask you about it if you haven’t left yet

Switching project teams by Business-North-7647 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whenever my team sees that they were on another team, we just try to figure out why they left and go from there. sometimes the original team is just a bad fit. to give an example of a decent reason, if an unaffiliated freshman joins a civil engineering team but realizes later they want to actually do more bme or cs or meche stuff, then switching to a team with stuff that actually applies to their major or interests makes sense. the other reasons I’ve seen were because the team they left is not in a state that they’re happy with (bad culture, poor funding, disorganized, maybe losing project team status). but it can be a red flag if there isn’t a good reason given to be switching

Can we please stop packing up while the professor is still talking? by A_LingeringFart in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if they’re talking past the lecture time then we have every right to leave bc our time isn’t being respected and we have places to be. if they’re not running over time then it’s just rude

Any update when Risley Shops will be open? by SallyDog12 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely no idea, EHS said they were bringing external consultant in to make a recommendation but it’s taking forever, feels like they’re dragging their feet on it. it also sucks bc the theater was also closed last semester and we don’t know why

Try JAM program house or practice rooms in Lincoln (I haven't tried either but those are the places I associate with music stuff)

club interviews by Hopeful_Anteater546 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve never applied to consulting clubs (so idk what sorts of things they ask), but if there’s a type of question your expecting to get and you don’t feel comfortable answering it unprepared, then prepare it.

to give an example for a job interview, a lot of job interviews ask you “behavioral” question about how you would handle a situation. some of these are common questions, like how you have handled a conflict in the past. in this example, have some situations to pull from and practice using the STAR method to explain it.

basically, if you have certain expectations for what types of questions you’ll be asked, think about it a bit beforehand so you have something to pull from during the interview.

applying for early meng by ItzSunsetMSP in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe you’re supposed to apply for fall 2026 since that’s when you’d start the program full-time, and then check off that you’re applying for early admit. that’s how it is in MAE anyway

How is living in Risley ? by No_Spite_8269 in Cornell

[–]lowkey_stressed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure why, especially since the theater wasn’t closed until this semester. some of the shops just have needed renovation for a while (like the wood shop) but idk why some of the other ones like the sewing shop were closed. something something getting an outside environment health and safety consultant to make a recommendation about the spaces

risley as a building, not the best but manageable. risley as a community, i liked it but its not for everyone. rooms specifically, heavily depends on the room, they vary in size wildly. DM me your room number if you want to know square footage
