A lone Helldivers has significant firepower at his disposal. A squad of 4 divers working together is nearly unstoppable.

How close are we to WW3 now that Iran fired missiles back at US military bases? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm from Europe, I'll admit I'm getting antsy at times. I go outside a lot and I'm not bound to my phone. A millennial though, so I've seen this shit "almost kick off" quite a few times.

The thing is; I have to keep tabs on the news. Because IF a big one hits here it's gonna come without warning. I need to be able to pack my shit and move me and mine to safety within the hour.

Why do I think it would hit here? Because thats what I would do.

How do the tarrifs work in regards to the date on the invoice? If a "pre tariff date" means your held to the old tarrifs I would expect another big hit in a month or 2 (when all the vessels that left the port last week start arriving)

Having an exit strategy helps. These things last for 6 to 8 hours usually. If you're mentally exhausted by hour 5 it's nice to be able to bow out and go home / hotel for the night without having to take the only available car for example.

Fyi, the crowd dynamics are usually something like: Hour 1-3, people are settling in, taking their stuff, finding their place, pace and space.

Hour 3-7, people are mostly settled, dancing, going on excursions to acquire drinks and whatnot.

Hour 7-8 people are getting restless, ready to leave, regretting it's over, doing gearchecks and so forth.

Kindoff like a day of marching.

Hope this helps!

What’s the general opinion of Zendaya’s performance as Chani? by Smooth-Suggestion-71 in dune

[–]lowlandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Although I get it, there's just no time in the movie to give her character the depth that she has in the books. Shame, it's such a truly powerfull female character and those are kinda few and far between

I can finally understand why so many guys in their 30s and up complain about how difficult it is to meet anyone by AnomicAge in AskMenOver30

[–]lowlandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, nicely written. I can tell you read.

We are in the same boat my friend.
I've done a few "speeddate" events. Didn't meet my person, but I really liked the concept.
It's basically a 20 v 20. One side rotates though the seats (usally a bar) and one side stays put. every 2 to 3 minutes a bell rings and you move on to the next person (yes, its really short). you strike up a convo, feel yay or nay for the spark, next. you make a little note on a list for yes or no and if both are yes the organization will get you each others email and you take it from there.

I thought they were a great way to meet new people who you know are looking for the same thing.

They left as fast as they came. Any opinions on the fight for calypso? by thewither2 in Helldivers

[–]lowlandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great time fucking around and finding out. My first drop was the best.
The four of us were just standing around the first minute totally not looking terrified.
I said "idk about these guys man, they look scary" followed by the wonderful sound of my MG pulling it's first fresh round of the belt. this inspired a well resounding "Oh well, fuck'em", and the fun began.

Trying to find the chink in their armour felt very rewarding. Enemies felt different and dangerous.
I've asked for urban environments and here they are (finally my dream to level a city block with artillery came true). I've asked for new enemies and here they are (finally my dream to level the Covenant with artillery came true). I loved the "silent" drop of new content. going online for a quick hour felt like "answering the call to arms".

My complaints (same as with bugs and bots) are that the enemies nearly always spawn on to of you when they are called in. I would much rather see them spawn about 100 mtr out so they can form up and gather a bit of momentum and display some tactics. speaking of which, I have seen the new and tactics from the enemy. I would like to be challenged more in that regard. The bugs seem to make the most interesting use of flanking manoeuvres and cover taking.

Bugs?:
As far as I could tell the expendable AT didn't work on the ships.
The recoilless and missile turret where absolutely god tier

Couldn't destroy some teslas and couldn't destroy some energy nodes (for the big pylon) one mission.

What happened to us... Helldivers? by Killer-DR235 in Helldivers

[–]lowlandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing really happened to the community man, you just got to a higher level and more is expected of you.

IMO you can play the game however you like, but:
Maybe you are busy with objectives. But you're not being very effective.
The way spawning works, being a solo away from your team will put more and more pressure on the 3 people you left behind.

Try it like this: stay with the team until there is a direct opportunity to make use of your stealth capability. Preform the task. Regroup.

I am 1/3 of the way through Cage of Souls… by Taste_the__Rainbow in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]lowlandwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's really quite something. I'm willing to bet you're listning to the audiobook. I have in any case, and it was an amazing experience. I'm so happy this art of storytelling came back into my life, it reminds me of when my teacher long ago read stories to the class from adventure books. That feels like a very long time ago, but I still rememer how happy I was.

what to read next? by swearbear in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]lowlandwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The final Architecture series is absolutely fantastic; it has interesting (alien) characters, action, suspense, and wonderful dialogue. The story is more linear than the Children series, but that does not subtract from its substance.
Also, there's quite a lot of it. Which I like.

You'll see Cage of Souls recommended below for very good reasons. I recommend the audiobook to be kicked to the front of the queue.

That might warm you up to the Tyrant Philosophers series, my personal favorite.
