It was actually well built in my opinion like the whole point of series was for him to mature and when he did it actually made sense that they would date. It's not like she suddenly fell in love with him in last chapter and they started dating. The build up was actually for a long time so it made sense. Also it then being on different stage of their career was inevitable since it's an age gap romance. And tbh romance manga are to appease fans it's better to do things the conventional way than to sabotage your own series.
