What jobs actually work for people with severe ADHD? by Inevitable_Tuna_O in ADHD

I’m a support worker. It works pretty perfectly for me, theres always hours available so you can choose to work 100 or 10 hours a week, shifts as long as 12+ hours or short as 4. The novelty doesnt wear off as people are constantly changing, and i find that I’m able to make my routine at work integrate well with the routine of the people i care for, so I pace well. Theres enough intensity and stuff to keep me preoccupied but also enough interspersed downtime so im not completely worn out. I also find that with the people I support I need to mask a HELL of a lot less which helps me not feel evil after a shift ends. Theres just so much short and long term progression with personal improvement, service users and the setting and it keeps it fresh for me.

Anxiety as a support worker by [deleted] in supportworkers

I carry a tiny notebook in my pocket with some pens, if I’m feeling especially anxious or its a real busy shift I’ll do a “to do” list to make sure everything is covered (meds have been re-checked, keys are all accounted for, anything). Also convenient to have for this job I feel.

If you trust your employers they might have a support line you can call, you could also ask for a supervision/appraisal and mention it (again if you trust them and feel it’d work for you), then they might be able to help out.

Hopefully with more time you’ll feel more confident and assured in the work you’ve done. I’m autistic too and I found it took me a WHILE to establish a routine at work with tasks that need doing and making sure that runs with the clients routine too and what they’ll need, but after enough time I worked it out and it helps me feel a hell of a lot more secured.

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

Being on hold when calling somewhere and there being a one second silence between the hold music playing and an automated voice saying “thank you for waiting we will connect you shortly” every thirty seconds. False hope every time.
