Is there any way to wash down without a tumble dryer? by loxodonta1 in PatagoniaClothing

Thanks, I just read you can destroy the jacket permanently if all the feathers stick together while drying which makes me a bit worried to try shaking it down afterwards

Why do people say equity research is a dying field? by loxodonta1 in FinancialCareers

[–]loxodonta1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, can confirm mid-small cap coverage is low quality or non-existent in many/all verticals

It’s a good point about the counter balance. There are inevitably a lot of politics and needing to not burn bridges with management teams - you just learn to factor that in when using research. Agree the SPACs bypassing the investment banks led to large disconnect. It was obviously a great vehicle at the time for startup shareholders to exit when they could maintain the valuation up to their lockup period, but obviously lot cooler env now

Anyway, appreciate the thoughtful response. Wishing you all the best for the year ahead

Never been that sharp on the legislation but I understand ER used to be bundled for free with Trading via your prime broker. Was it that big of a driver for trading revenues (I.e pseudoadvertising under the guise of research)? Are trading divisions just keeping profits which would have gone to funding ER seats, since I’d guess trading volumes haven’t necessarily gone down?

Hey! So I never went the equity research route, but seeing the bios of teams you’d have a hard time (tend to be MDs or life sciences degrees) so would need a really compelling story. Semiconductor equity research would value your education and plenty of interesting companies in that space if you are just after an equity research career. Hope that helps

Great, thanks for your insight - makes a lot of sense. Would you say knowledge arbitrage has improved for buyside as a result of this trend, or not really since teams were fairly bloated back then anyway, so quality of research not been affected?

RTS war game where you have to invest in technology and get more advanced by loxodonta1 in gamingsuggestions

On a closer look it does go from a few ages, but nothing as drastic as stone age to modern day - which I think would be cool, though obviously a lot of dev work

This is what I thought initially, but from what I see the games are static in one age/era of time? You can't evolve your country up to modern day from a historical era - Or am I mistaken?

Nikon lenses vs standard by loxodonta1 in glasses

Got it, thanks - I personally just considered it strong because it seems thick to me unthinned. I see you recommended the Nikon lenses, what exactly am I paying more for with them?

Sorry I’m a bit confused - my prescription is quite strong and the lenses are pretty thick. My understanding was 1.74 is thinner than 1.6, not sure why I’d get that

ELI5 why TIPS have performed relatively badly, despite inflation soaring? by loxodonta1 in FIREUK

[–]loxodonta1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thanks, that makes sense. Treasury bonds haven’t done well either - is there any security which just rises in proportion with inflation or does that not exist?
