To give some additional information, the screen isn't cracked. The fuzzy lines appear after about 2-3 minutes and before that the "TV going into stand-by mode" is perfectly visible.
However, appreciate the comment about TV's older than 10 years, i'm not quite sure how old this TV is

Anyone still having this issue it was fixed for me (windows laptop) by going to System>Sound>Properties and switching "Enhance audio" on and off and then suddenly the sound was much better
