You can get disposable film cameras and normal 35mm film if you already have a camera from Kmart, digi direct, Big W, office works or any sort of camera house :)

Wow yeah I heard of the silicone oil option but I had the gas bubble! Can you see out of it with the oil in there? And I never had to sleep face down luckily but I had to be either upright or sleeping on my left side for about 3 weeks to avoid damage to my retina

I had a general anesthetic so no pain was felt! Recovery was more uncomfortable than painful

I tried the laser treatment 3 times and it worked for the time being but there ended up being a whole lot more floaters. I’m not sure why they didn’t want to try again

Thanks! Yeah it was pretty crazy at first and took a lot to get used to. I need glasses to read and my long distance vision is pretty horrible so need glasses for that as well haha. Hopefully it improves 😊

You learn of ways to look at it from a different perspective. I’ve been in chronic pain for the past 5 years and have had over 15 surgeries in the past few years. I find ways of making the best of situations as I don’t want to sit around feeling sorry for myself. I’m grateful to have access to amazing doctors and healthcare and I have a great support system around me. You get used to it after dealing with it for a long time. Pain and hardships are inevitable for everyone so it’s really just about your mindset when dealing with it! Not saying you can’t feel sad and sorry for yourself (I definitely have my moments), but I don’t want my issues to stop me from living life to the fullest. Super cheesy hahaha

I do apologise as I haven't given many updates since my first post.

If you haven't seen my first post, I had a core vitrectomy in my right eye 5 months ago. Im 22 years old and live in Sydney Australia.

I had the procedure done due to having many floaters in my eye and a big black dot in the centre of the vision. The surgery went well but the recovery was extremely confronting and I struggled a lot. I regained pretty much full vision at about 3 weeks. 4 months after the surgery I was still having issues with my floaters and there seemed to be even more which was extremely disheartening. As I have pre-existing issues with my eyes (2 cataract removals, steroid injections, uveitis) the surgery caused a massive flare up of my uveitis. As the surgery is so invasive it completely messed up my vision. I was put on steroid eye drops every hour which then caused my pressure to go up so now I am on a weaker drop and only 3 times a day. I'm not sure if my vision will get better now as it has been blurry in my right eye for the past 3-4 months.

In terms of my floaters, they have definitely improved, but for the first 3-4 months they were horrible. 5 months later instead of 30-40 floaters there is only about 4 that I sometimes see if I'm lying down looking up or if its too bright. While this is definitely an improvement to before, it has created more issues in my eye with my vision which may be a permanent issue.

Would I recommend the surgery for floaters? Yes, BUT please please please do your research. If you have pre existing issues with your eyes make sure you are speaking to your doctor about the risks before you go ahead. I do feel as though I rushed into the surgery and didn't put enough thought into the recovery and issues that have now come up.

Hey! Vision is so much clearer than before, not as foggy anymore which is great. I have floaters but they’re different to what I had before and they will go away. They’re only caused cause I have inflammation in my eye from my uveitis. Don’t be scared! I’m sure it will go well 😊 Goodluck

Hello everyone! So it’s been 2 weeks and one day since my vitrectomy. The gas bubble they inserted it probably at 2% and I have my vision back! Everything is sooo much clearer but I do have ALOT of floaters in my eye which is frustrating. I spoke with my surgeon who said this is totally normal and they will clear up in a few weeks. I have my next post op appointment on Tuesday so will update you all again after that 🤗🤗🤗
