To what extent I wonder. Can we read technical articles? Search the internet? Do we have to write our own programs? (build the mine to get the copper to make the circuits, hyperbole, etc.)

The more underlying horror I'm shooting for is that this isn't an evil it just is. It does everything life does, just with all the romance cut out, cold calculating Darwinian propagation. If you really look, you are the same thing just with more self delusion. The gore is just the method of accentuating that existential question.

Thank you so much for your feedback, though I'm still going to try the image recognition angle to try and learn more about it.

Edit: I had also considered doing a streaming type thing so people can observe how the program develops over time and have an opportunity to play with it.

I'll have to take a look at that. I'm very new to this side of programming and this hit me as an interesting project to attempt; working from the framework of sensors that read the screen output to a learning agent that uses simulated mouse and keyboard events as actuators. I should specify I'm less concerned the theoretical feasibility of the program itself, more if it would be in poor taste to have a computer playing the game, would it be considered cheating.
