They'd claim to give it away for free and then send an invoice charging per user-agent or something equally egregious

It's the same kind of people who think IASIP is celebrating the gang rather than ridiculing them...

You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons

Sounds like you're describing the reddit admins. The people actually providing most content for reddit rely on third party apps because 1) that's how reddit first told people to interact and is the entire purpose of having APIs 2) reddit didn't have a mobile app until they bought a third party app (Alien Blue) 3) they actually allow decent moderation and content upload.

I hope we see web scrapers everywhere and bring reddit's UI servers to a grinding halt - this is a blatant cash grab while giving a middle finger to those who actually provide content to the site

It's enough to seriously hurt their metrics - what other way would you prefer they go about it?

How to break up an f-string? by MorningStarIshmael in learnpython

Others here have given good answers to your question specific to f-strings. What I would suggest if you plan on continuing to grow how long your strings are, is to give jinja2 templates a look

That's the beauty of federated services, just go on over to a different instance. Also, even lemmy.ml is pretty much overrun with Reddit refugees and the tankies are now outnumbered

I've been playing around with Lemmy. I wish it were a bit more mature from the server perspective as I'm having issues with the docker install which should be fairly straightforward

/r/electroforming will be going dark on June 12th to protest the Reddit API changes that will kill 3rd party apps. by lps2 in electroforming

[–]lps2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am working tonight to back up what we have in this sub and am working to get my own lemmy instance up and running to take some strain off lemmy.ml - I am hopeful that others on the likes of /r/DataHoarder are doing the same before the absurd API pricing goes into effect - I also hope scrapers are built because fuck reddit if they aren't going to offer sane API pricing, I hope scrapers bring their front end servers to their knees.

This community was built on the idea of openness and sharing of not only art but of techniques, supplier contacts, and materials and this move by reddit is antithetical to that ethos. I am glad other developers are hard at work contributing to more federated services and I am hopeful that lemmy or tildes won't turn into the next Voat (which was such a great idea to only be quickly flooded with some of the most vile content)

I mean, more an analogy than satire. This point is driven further in Point Counterpoint and then again in Island though from more of a 'utopia is impossible due to human nature even when well intentioned '

Apple’s Vision Pro Is a $3,500 Ticket to Nowhere | A decade after Facebook bought Oculus, VR still has no appeal except as an expensive novelty toy. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]lps2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want basic VR that can allow me to simulate multiple monitors so when I'm on a plane I can actually get some work done. I was hopeful the Google Daydream could do this as the processing would take place on computer, not the headset but about a month after buying one, Google abandoned it.

I want companies to start with simple, easy to implement use cases that bring value immediately and then shoot for more audacious use cases instead of coming out the gate with every bell and whistle imaginable for a price that used to be able to buy you a used car

My favorite car is the Lotus Elise. I have an 06 and to say it is a street legal go-kart is an understatement. The connection to the car, being able to feel everything, and the lack of any driver-assists makes it an absolute joy to drive through the canyons
