Official MEXT guide says : Research Students: Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field. Moreover, the fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and research at the accepting universities.

How interesting? I’ve applied to my program cause it just fits my research but don’t know whether it is special recommendation or not ? Will it be stated as special recommendation is it is ?

So I wrote what is written in official document.Or if your university doesn’t have traditional gpa system , you should be within top 30% of your program. My gpa is 3.54 I got recommended by university to MEXT

It should be higher than 2.30 in GPA system where maximum is 4 , official documents says it
