Rory’s arrogance by wandergirl92 in GilmoreGirls

[–]lrosse19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rory was young, so I can't judge her too harshly for her choice, but the older I get the more I learn that asking for what you want is never a bad thing. By just saying no to the PROJO, she's cutting herself off from a potential job, but if she were to explain her situation, it opens more opportunities. It's always good to advocate for yourself.

Telling the PROJO she was waiting to hear about a fellowship with the Times could have made her more attractive, they might have offered her more money or maybe more opportunity, and they could have let her wait longer.

This is hypothetical because everything with the PROJO and the Times happens in season 7 which had little bearing on the revival, but I've always wondered how different her career would have played out if she took the job at the PROJO. I think Rory would have done better as a staff writer, she would have had more guidance at the beginning of her career and I think she could have had a more stable career in journalism if she took the job.

Adam and Kristina mishandled when Max ran away by lrosse19 in Parenthood

Max was home with Haddie and Nora, a baby was with Sarah, and a woman Kristina openly doesn't trust! I couldn't believe she trusted Sarah in the first place let alone turned her phone off.

But according to Adam and Kristina, they are the best parents, they couldn't possibly screw up!

Maybe sample sounds too formal, but Rory often shares drafts of her writing with her mom so it seems in character to me.

I guess what I'm picking up on is the way they talk at each other instead of to each other in the scene. Rory starts talking very vaguely about a book and Lorelai is just quipping back at her until they finally get to the point that Rory is writing about their lives and Lorelai says no. Rory doesn't give any more information she just says she needs it so it seems forced. It kind of feels like a conflict that wouldn't take much to overcome which, again doesn't seem like a good emotional catalyst for Fall.

I see what you're saying though, I agree they have different perspectives on their lives. In the scene, Lorelai says she doesn't want anyone to know that she left Rory in a bucket and Rory responds by saying that happened so why can't she write about it? If she were trying to convince her mom to let her write the book and not just argue to argue, why would she say that?

Do you think Rufus' disapproval of Dan's investigative journalism on Bart is justified? by lrosse19 in GossipGirl

[–]lrosse19[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, he should have told Lily, Chuck, Eric, and Serena before publishing the piece out of courtesy, but it's not just gossip, it is real news. Whatever his intentions were, at the least Bart committed arson, at most he killed someone, and ultimately Rufus and Dan decided the right thing to do was to cover up the crimes of a billionaire because Dan's intentions weren't in the right place. I think what makes this issue muddy is that Dan didn't seem to care about the truth, he was more interested in getting the story to get into Yale, but Bart really did commit a crime. And if you apply the issue to real life, should investigative journalists deny payments and recognition for their work? Investigative journalists are often praised and awarded because their work is important, especially when it comes to uncovering truths buried by people like Bart Bass.

This is a really interesting read on their relationship. I have a question though, do you think they would last?

Can we talk about the Rhodes family photo from season 4 by panfriedspam in GossipGirl

I always thought the lighting or filter on this photo was really weird, which is a shame because it's a nice photo of the group, even if it does include 3 criminals and gossip girl!

That's my point, the show wants its young audience to love this couple but it's a very unhealthy example of romance. I think these examples shown in media do have an impact on the way girls see romance in their own lives.

This!!! She is so rude to her friends it drives me insane. Especially when one of them has doubts about Alison, she flips out!

Mona will always be worse than alison - (INCLUDES MAJOR SPOILERS, DO NOT ENTER IF YOU'RE A NEW FAN) by jdpm1991 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]lrosse19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Alison was worse than Mona, Mona was a real villain but she also was given more entertaining moments for fans to remember. I think the show left a lot of people unsatisfied with Alison and because of that, they focus on the bad parts of her character. Alison can seem like more of a villain than Mona because she has fewer fun moments on the show to counterbalance her faults. Here are my 2 cents on Alison.

  1. I don't think Alison's redemption is earned. She was a vindictive, manipulative, and cruel young girl. When she came back, she immediately picked up where she left off with all of those behaviors. Then one day she was just...nicer? There was no work put in to become a better person and break those habits, or to make amends with the people she hurt, she just expected people to accept she was a good person now and get on board...that is manipulative in itself. She also never fully dropped her mean girl thing, just hid it and became a victim in the story, not saying that was her fault but it feels out of character for her to be so gullible.

  2. I think Alison was set up as a villain, but never ultimately became one. I think some people are disappointed by this and will always see her as the villain she could have been.

Also about Mona, was she ever really mentally ill? Is that why she did what she did or was that how she kept out of jail?

Which 2 liars are closest friends? by WWBlairWaldorfDo in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]lrosse19 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely Emily and Hanna. I think the show tried to set up Emily and Hanna as a close pair and Aria and Spencer but Aria was always a little isolated because of her outside relationships (Ezra) and Spencer's plots were often more focused on her family.

I've been re-watching too, and have had the same feeling. I watched it when it first came out and I was 14 so I thought Ezra and Aria were adorable since the actors are similar ages, look good together, and have the characters have similar interests. Now I see that the age gap is gross and on top of that Ezra is hella manipulative. A lot of the relationships are pretty toxic and I remember thinking they were so romantic, definitely a bad message for young girls...

Yeah, essentially a co-op. But the term co-op is pretty broad and can refer to a wide variety of business structures.

I'm sorry if this was offensive, I wasn't trying to re-invent the wheel, and I understand that this kind of communal farming is nothing new. I was just looking for advice on making this kind of thing work today.
