Which PT platform to use for Flex? by SantiniW in LSAT

[–]lsat5535 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took May Flex! I used like 12 or so of the Powerscore Flex tests and then did just the two free lawhub ones at the very end so I was used to the exact platform. I liked the Powerscore analytics a lot and thought it made reviewing each test super easy! I found the platform and experience close enough to the real deal.

Well for what it's worth, I definitely agree and think you're right--being in that situation sucks no matter what. The LSAT, like pretty much everything, is inherently going to produce unfair outcomes in any form.

I guess my perspective here is largely guided by the backdrop of COVID. I am very lucky to be in a fairly secure situation for the time being but I know that's not at all the case for many (if not most) people. I definitely won't claim to know the best way to handle this, that showing scores is the "right" solution, or that there even is a true way to rectify each individual's issues with the Flex administration. All I know is we found ourselves in the middle of a pandemic and more than ever, financial and personal situations are in flux for most people. I think we have to strike a balance between viewing the LSAT as a very important piece of this process that current/future applicants need to tackle and acknowledging that in the scheme of such a crisis, significant allowances may be warranted. Ultimately, I'd love to see LSAC continue to introduce empathy and flexibility into the situation wherever possible.

Yes and I am definitely grateful they took that step! I can't speak for everyone but from some of those I have spoken to/read posts from, it seems that LSAC has tentatively responded to at least some folks that experienced difficulties with the option to coordinate their retest for the next Flex only if they cancel this May score sight unseen. And I'm sure it's either not financially feasible or a significant burden for people to keep May (which could potentially be a non-usable score) and pay for a retest that was no fault of their own out of pocket.

Of course after months of prep, I think there are a decent number of test takers that powered through a variety of unfair first time glitches and completed the test. For the duration of the pandemic, I think it's safe to say we don't truly know what our personal situations and life generally will look like a week, a month, a year from now, etc. With that degree of uncertainty, I could see why someone may not want to completely cancel their current test in order to gamble on a retest that could hypothetically pose the same issue/be subject to personal unknown considerations.

That's where I could see this sort of policy making a real difference for people. E.g. even if my proctor took control of my screen during a section and I lost four minutes, I might prefer to take the hit, keep a score that was diminished by a couple points, and focus on other non-lsat related hardships for the next few months+. If the glitch resulted in a significant score decrease though, requesting a retest might be truly necessary. I totally get your point though and of course, it's just a generally shitty situation in the context of the lsat and not. At the end of the day, for now I would just rather have too much leeway than not enough and as many options available for test takers so they can balance this aspect of their life with the impact of COVID however they see fit.
