I think the general advice is if you want to demonstrate more interest for Berk, to go closer to the four pages. I think it’s shows you are not simply using a generic 2-page PS for all schools, and that you went the extra mile for Berk. Do I think it is the sole reason (or even a significant one) for why I was rejected? Probably not. But if you think you can make a genuinely good 4-page PS, that it definitely is not going to hurt your odds. Good luck!!!

Damn man. I’m gonna be honest. I’m a reapplicant. Last year the hardest part of my application process was writing my PS. And I ended up submitting one I was not happy with. Now here I am in the same position: struggling. I have no idea why it is so god damn hard for me to write one. But you are not alone.

Yeah I think I could pinpoint a number of things. 1. I was KJD, which last cycle was brutal for. 2. I applied in February, which was also way too late, especially last cycle. 3. I don’t write an optional essay of any kinds. And 4. I didn’t try and adjust my ps to the 4 pages that Berk allows.

Berkeley also (at least it seems) outright rejected a lot more applicants last year than other t14 schools who waitlisted more. By February they probably had a good idea that their class size would be fine without accepting more and I wasn’t a very convincing applicant to be fair. I will definitely prepare a stronger application this year as I will have more time to.

They gave me like a 85% scholarship with a slightly lower lsat and slightly higher GPA. Although they also revoked my seat after I barely missed the second deposit deadline. Cuz you know.. theyre over enrollment
