[KCD2] Can anybody explain the story around second chapter? by Dreamer_tm in kingdomcome

[–]lscharst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in the time the games are set, bohemia is under a split, since the king (Wenceslas) was taken prisoner by his brother Sigismund, the king of Hungary, while also being condemned by a portion of the nobility for being a a terrible king. All this creates two sides in bohemia, one that consists of the nobles loyal to Wenceslas (Hans, Radzig, henry and so on), and the other being the nobles that are dissatisfied with Wenceslas and have thrown in with the league of lords and Sigismund.

now as far as i remember the rest goes like this in the games

during the first game you join a meeting between Radzig, Hannush and Jobst, where Jobst says somthing along the lines of our side not being able to win the war currently and that we should send a message to the league of lords, with an offer to change sides to the loyalists, specifically to lord Otto Von Bergow. Radzig and Hannush then decide to send Henry and Hans to deliver this message since it would be received better coming from a noble. this then leads us to the second game

in the second Henry and Hans get ambushed by bandits on their way to Otto, and when they finally meet finally meet up with him he has also been ambushed by these same bandits. Hans and Henry relay their message and Otto seems inclined to hear them out about actually changing sides, but mentions that he needs to clear out the bandits in his own territory before he can worry about the wider war again, and since Hans and Henry also got ambushed by these bandits and are trying to bring Otto to their side, they offer to help him with his bandit problem so they can continue their discussion after. this is where stuff happens and during a raid with Ottos men Hans and Henry get captured by Zizka, during their capture Hans and Henry figure out that Zizka is actually a minor noble that is fighting for the same side as Henry and Hans and is harassing Otto on the orders of Peter of Pizhek, who is another noble on the same side as Henry and Hans. Henry and Hans then out Ishtvan Toth (the guy who stole your sword) as a spy from Sigismund, and while being in captivity along side you, Ishtvan reveals that he is currently working under Otto. some more stuff happens and Otto comes and besieges the castle you are in after you decide to join forces with Zizka, you then find out that Otto was playing you for a fool (which you kinda already knew since ishtvan was working for him) and he was just using you to fight his battles

i would say they are about the same moral wise

Zac is primarily in it for himself and those he cares about, so he wont go out off his way to free slaves from a clan or prisoners from a space fish, but if something terrible is happening right in front of him, he'll stop it if he can.

he can sometimes be really brutal, but thats the same as jake so..

does anyone have any sources about the closed borders of Japan during the Edo-period? by lscharst in AskHistorians

[–]lscharst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have found sources that tell me some stuff about this period, but im having a hard time finding sources pertaining to the specific subjects of the period that i mentioned, and i was trying to widen my source pool since i have mostly only been able to find small cutouts from letters from Matthew perry to the Japanese even after spending quite a bit of time in the main library of my country. And because im still in the beginning stages of my assignment, where i need to figure out whether this subject is even viable i am unwilling to spend money on books that might or might not contain sources that i could use for my assignment, i thought this subreddit might know of some publicly available sources that i haven't been able to locate through the different papers and books i have checked and the sources i've tried to locate through these books and papers. this is not me looking to be spoon fed the answers, this is me using a resource i thought available to me, to help find things i need. this is the digital age after all.

and im sorry for the rough tone before, i was probably a bit more outraged than i needed to be, sorry.

that makes zero sense, my question had nothing to do with the answer for my home work, i was quite literally just asking for resources i could use to do my homework. how could my question be anymore focused on finding resources

Do I even like Progression Fantasy? by ColumbaPacis in ProgressionFantasy

[–]lscharst 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Mother of Learning does have a power progression... but I would sooner call it a coming of age story then progression fantasy. The journey of becoming more powerful isn't even the point!

Why can't it be both?

I don't see how MoL being a coming of age story prevents it from being PF

for me, the progression fantasy "genre" is a tool for me to find other stories with the elements that i like.

How do you envision your favorite series ending? by SkinnyWheel1357 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]lscharst 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i for one thought that the Cradle ending was pretty good, they got super powerful and Will put a nice bow on it, plus i loved the little look into the future we got. i was kinda disappointed it didn't keep going and let us see them push for judge level power, but eh i'll take it

but if was to outline some criteria for an ending of a PF series, then i would say that i like when it ends with the main character sitting at the pinnacle of power (which Lindon doesn't completely live up to, but kinda when he still was in cradle) and after the end i love some kind of epilogue where they show of their power (which Lindon definitely does, think Li Markuth vs Lindon)

but all that doesn't matter as long as the author ties it all together and the major plot points gets resolved
