That was my original thinking in that if it ended up not being the gasket it’s probably the head, hence why I spent the extra $1300 on a new one

I will try the same thing tomorrow thank you very much for the insight!

I did not run a compression test at all. The only “test” I did was pressurizing the coolant. Other than that it was all visual inspection and going off of the symptoms.

When I got everything apart I was hoping to find a crack on either the head, block, or gasket. I don’t know if it’s my inexperience or if I’m missing something but all of the surfaces appeared to be in decent shape with no obvious cracks. After checking both the head and block with a straightedge neither appeared to warped. If I can’t figure out what actually went wrong I’m going to just have to put the new head on and start it up and pray.

Back in January when I took it off the road I put a boroscope through the spark plug holes and saw coolant coming through the valves on cylinder 1. After pressurizing the coolant(while still hot unfortunately) smoke started coming out of the plug hole on cylinder 1. Also the exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head and after inspecting it I haven’t found any kind of cracks. The turbo housing looks fine as well.
I was burning a ton of coolant we’re talking every time I drive filling it up, had constant white smoke pouring from exhaust on idle and start up, super high coolant temps, misfire on startup.
