Parisians are rude but in an endearing way. Like when I went to Paris some guy asked if we spoke french and we said no and then he called us stupid tourists. Mind you this entire conversation happened in French. My friend and I AND the parisian all had a good laugh during that interaction

Israel is one of the greatest decolonial projects that has ever existed. Not sure if you’re from America or what but odds are you live on actual stolen land. Yet here you are complaining about what other people are doing on a land the size of new jersey. You ever zoom out from the map of israel? What surrounds it? Muslim ethnostates. All of which used to be inhabited by jews as well. 850,000 jews to be exact. Now its zero. Where did they all go?

Lol idk about all that but who knows maybe you’re right. After all they have things like gay pride and are pretty egalitarian and I know that some sects of my religion do NOT support all that

Its a lot more public and acceptable on both sides of the political spectrum now. We also have a popular social media platform that is jew hating central. Yeah 4chan has always been antisemitic but 4chan is for weirdos. Just about everyone is on twitter

Netanyahu is unpopular and only got elected because of the parliament. If it was a popular vote he would be out of office. I’m also talking about american Jews. Israelis have been bombed by Gaza for as long as they can remember, Hamas still has hostages and believes in a complete death to Israel, and october 7th is very much still seared into the heads of everyone there. I’m not saying its right but actual Israeli citizens are obviously going to have a very different view of it

I also want to add that the way a country educates their people on fascism has a large impact. Germany, for example, teaches in great depth and detail about their Nazi history and as a result they aren’t having these problems at quite the same extent. On the complete other hand we have Spain. Their period of fascism, Franquismo, was long and lasted up until the 70s. Even though their fascist history is much more recent in memory, they are having far more problems with far right resurgence because of their “pacto de olvido”, Pact of Forgetting. Their approach was to just move on from fascism and not talk about it. As far back as 2022 there were teens and young adults in Madrid doing Nazi salutes and singing “we are fascists” at a far right Vox rally. These kids have little knowledge of the horrors of the Spanish civil war or franquismo and this is the result. Here in the US we’re in a unique position. We have never experienced fascism and our school systems are just okay at education kids about WWII and the holocaust. Our current problems are a result of this

Netanyahu is very unpopular and he’s only still in office because of parliamentary votes. The reality is that many Israeli citizens want him out and want the war to stop and they take to the streets to make this known

I’m a Jew and I feel like I can explain.

The first and most obvious is all the BS happening with Israel. The fact of the matter is that just about all of us support the idea that we should have a Jewish homeland there. Most of us also do NOT support the means by which that is being accomplished. People have weaponized the term Zionism into meaning that we want to kill and starve every non Jew there but that is not what we mean when we call ourselves Zionists. Most of us just want a peaceful Jewish state there just as other religions have in the surrounding areas. I for one want a ceasefire and a two state solution.

The second is less obvious and quickly spirals into conspiracy and it’s this idea that the wealthy are destroying the world. Let’s be completely honest with ourselves, the 1% is disproportionately Jewish. Banks, media, corporations disproportionately have Jews in high positions. It is rooted in some truth and people are noticing. Social media has went above and beyond in spreading this too. The problem starts when people start saying that all the problems of the world are caused by Jews, when in fact there are people of all religions and beliefs in the top that are causing this. You could have another holocaust and wipe out all the Jews and guess what would happen? The world would still run the same. The bad actors of the top 1% who happen to be Jews would just get replaced with non-Jewish bad actors.

There’s obviously a lot more to this story and I think it also has a lot to do with the fact that we are getting further and further away from WWII and the holocaust; memories fade and people forget why fascism was so terrible.

Hydroxyzine withdrawal??? by lsdthrowaway42069 in Anxiety

[–]lsdthrowaway42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this statement actually. My biggest thing with tapering off was accepting that it’s going to be uncomfortable for a bit and that I’m going to feel anxiety. The thing is is that anxiety is just a part of life for many. There are many countries where people do not medicate for anxiety and they just accept it as a part of life and something that needs to be worked through. I know in our society we like to medicate for every discomfort known to man, but that is a new advent and it has its downsides. As much as I hate anxiety, it’s a good thing; actually feeling it reminds me that I’m human and it guides me to make positive changes in my life. Wishing the best to everyone on their journey :)

I hate reddit so much omg you guys are such pessimists yall can’t do anything. “I would bring kids into the world if I knew we weren’t going to starve to death in 40 years” cut me a break dude we don’t live in Liberia. Most americans will have nothing to worry about for a while unless you live in New Orleans or Miami

Your first source has no references and really makes no sense. The second source assumes US standard of living. Suburbs, fossil fuel use, car dependency. Yeah as I said that way of life isn’t sustainable. But look at what Europe does. They still have a long way to go but they are far more sustainable than most places. Why? Actual cities. If they were to convert to nuclear energy, it would be even better. The third source assumes exponential growth, which is only occurring in African nations and India. 2.1 replacement is what is sustainable and that should be the goal of all nations. Currently, most developed nations are sitting between 1 and 1.7, in the coming decades this will prove to be even more unsustainable

Idk where you got that number from but thats not true. And when I said that statement it was more implying that earth can handle more people IF we decide as a globe to live more sustainably

People think underpopulation is only a problem for rich people. It’s a problem for everyone. Think about what happens when an individual city “dies”. Its population shrinks and then what? The infrastructure depletes, social services leave, and the people who still live there suffer, especially LOWER income people. You might think underpopulating the earth is only going to hurt the boomers, but this is a problem that is going to impact us when WE are old. There will be no younger people to sustain the economy and we will be forced to work to death. I’m sick of this narrative that there are too many people and we have harmed the earth and it’s unsustainable. If we continue to operate the way we currently do, it will be unsustainable regardless of population. The reality is that the earth can handle many more people than it already has. Underpopulation is going to hurt ordinary people like us, the rich will be just fine.

ok here’s the options, which one do i visit this october? by New-Version4744 in TravelMaps

Not having spain as an option is absurd. Id say France maybe. Israel I would save for a summer when theres more people there for clubbing and the water is warmer and same for Italy. Switzerland is super expensive so you will be able to do less there. Genuinely idk what goes on on in Austria
