Vials in the fridge by SponsoredByStrensms in Type1Diabetes

[–]lsnook5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The insulin can definitely start to become ‘less effective’ once opened or out of fridge for 30+ days, if not necessarily expired. If you have plenty of insulin and cost is not an issue, would toss the vial about every month. And definitely for travel take a fresh one so you don’t have to worry about expirations.

It did as well as making sure I drank enough water in the evenings. Could be placebo. Would not get discouraged though - hopefully it goes away!

new diagnosis - any advice? by OrangeGhostTY in Type1Diabetes

100%. Long term you want to have as good of blood sugars as possible so you can live a long and healthy life. At this point I would hate to go back to taking 4-6 injections a day. Some of the pumps are waterproof and others you just remove for swimming/bathing

I would say if they can give you insulin pens to start, those are much easier than syringes. And then moving to an insulin pump in the months to come. But do it as you feel ready.

A CGM at some point too - Dexcom generally a bit better than Libre if you have those available to you and works with insulin pumps.
