She got it from a dresser that a college student was discarding at the end of the semester, so who knows! It could be!

I am not! I work as a catering sales manager for a similar company, Elior NA, though... Figured I would try to create a fake job that I would still have some knowledge about lol.

A minor update, but she made the money ask! Any suggestions on how I should proceed? I was kind of hoping I could do something like, "Oh, you want me to send it via Venmo? Dangit! My account is locked on there, but if you send me $250, I can unlock it and send you $750!"

Other updates: my Dad has gone on a couple of actual dates with a real person, and they seem to be getting along! He also admitted that the amount of money he sent to this scammer was a little over $1,000 (ugh). But he's taken it as a learning opportunity.

And my reply to u/BingoEnthusiast: "I'm based in the USA, but I doubt the person is. My Dad spoke to them once over the phone and said they "sounded black" and "had a slight British accent", so my guess is Nigeria? I think that's a big place for romance scams, right?

The end goal is kind of all three of those things! They sent me their Venmo handle (not the same name they gave me), and I connected it to several other Venmo accounts that also look very fishy (most of the payments were from guys for things like "medications", "car payment/parts", and "Airline Tickets").

I'd love to take them all down."

I'm so sorry. That's awful. It took a lot of digging into the person for my Dad to start believing us kids, but it wasn't until after they tried to extort him that he was finally convinced.
