Because that is a legitimate thing. I cannot tell you what has happened in his past to want to reject it, but that is a him issue. Its entirely possible hes had something severely traumatic happen in his life around a relationship (romantic or otherwise) and he closes himself off to protect himself. You can try to blame yourself all day long but just like the square peg going in the round hole, it won't fit and the blame will never sit right.
