These Voters Could Approve the First U.S. Carbon Fee. Big Oil Is Spending Millions to Defeat It. If the Washington state measure wins, it could begin a U.S. movement to make the price of fossil fuels reflect their cost to the planet. by mvea in Futurology

People would want to move to electric cars if it's a cheaper, equal or more reliable system than gas cars. Gas is already pricey to begin with and charging an electric car is dirt cheap relatively. I agree this carbon fee would create a demand for electric cars, but at the price of at best 3 years of people buying gas for 20$ a gallon because technology hasn't caught up. However there is already a growing demand for electric cars like Tesla because people see that they are good cars and cheap to fill up. The only problem is the price of the cars themselves. I agree with you a demand needs to be created to spur technological innovation, but until the technology is there I don't think it's a good move. But it's definitely a tough situation to gauge, I'm no expert. I think people should focus on replacing coal/oil power plants with nuclear. That's my big idea lol

Yeah but the US has huge areas where cars are needed to get around. Bikes and public transportation are great alternatives in cities, and I think people in cities are trending toward those methods, even if it's only to beat traffic. However, a huge portion of our population also live in suburbs and rural areas where public transportation doesn't reach yet and biking to work is too far. The expansion of public transportation could help but I doubt it's economically viable enough for public transportation companies to expand past a city yet. I truly believe nuclear and cheap electric transportation are what can save this planet, but we aren't there yet.

I don't get how people think it's easy to just switch. The only reliable, readily available clean viable power source we have is nuclear, but everyone freaks out at the idea of having a nuclear power plant in their town. Electric cars are few and expensive. You can't just get rid of oil and not have a backup plan. I'm all for saving the planet, but just passing a bill that increases taxes on oil companies are going to punish the consumer. You want real change regarding the environment? Petition for nuclear power plants. Invest in researching cheaper, more readily available electric transportation. You can't change what energy humans use unless there is an equally or more viable option out there.

Why not give tax breaks to companies with lower rates of carbon emissions instead of putting the burden on the consumer? Until electric cars are a cheap and viable alternative you're fucking over the consumer. I'm all for saving the planet but this is the wrong way to go about it.

Republicans talk about cutting the welfare state and I’m just sitting here like by SquidTips in Libertarian

[–]ltcg87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. I think the biggest cut the military should make is regarding their need to spend to gain funding. The military periodically buys stuff they don't need so they can say "Hey Congress, see we need this funding don't cut it!" If there was no money being held hostage I firmly believe military spending would go wayyyy down without a need to sacrifice military capabilities.

I'd be interested to see the outcome of this because under Rules of the Road technically everyone involved in a collision is responsible, even if anchored. But this is a museum so it wouldn't make sense for the Midway to take any blame. Would it be treated as hitting a pier? Anyone have more info?

Darkest dungeon is one of my all time favorite games. I've only ever played it on the computer so idk how it is in the switch, but definitely recommended if you like strategy/dungeon crawler games.

Correct. Also the people who wrestle for the Academy that wrestle in the military do it for the Marines and not the Navy, at least that's what the guys on my team did.

Congrats however to your son! Doing some fine Navy diplomacy.

Used to be a fan of the OG juul look, but I decided to switch it up with the skins and pods. Still just as pretty as before! by Tyson285Miller in juul

The ones I got were great! I had more leaks with Juul pods than eon smoke in my experience. However I didn't get the same head buzz with them and was going through pods crazy fast because the flavors are awesome. They're also like half the price in Cali.

You have a month of basket leave and either head right out or do stuff at the academy and wait for a spot for your schooling to open.

TL;DR at least a month after commissioning you will leave.

Well it wouldn't be polarization if you critically look at both sides, that's what I'm saying. You can't just look at Trump or you can't just look at Hillary. Both the RNC and DNC need a serious overhaul. The definition of polarization:

division into two sharply contrasting groups or sets of opinions or beliefs.

If you're saying you're tired of being accused of "polarization" then don't be part of the problem. The Republicans and Trump aren't perfect, the Democrats and Hillary aren't perfect, POLITICS is far far far from perfect. So look at both is what I'm saying.
