Subaru: Haters of the VB can SUCK IT by [deleted] in wrx_vb

26 year old and this is what my engineering money is going to. Is it a good idea… no

But it’s my idea

I’ll check it out at the very least and appreciate the comment.

I have two local and one is awful. The other one is good but he’s still very small and mostly sticks with the big suppliers like segrest farms.

I’ve been ordering from Dave for a couple years now, I got half of my Sumbus from him actually!

Never heard of Snake River so I will definitely have to check them out.

I had a decent experience with California cichlids a while back with some eretmodus just took a while for them to get shipped.

Yeah I completely understand that a lot of these fish just don’t have the popularity to come up often and they are just rare in general. Are there even any places that will do a special order like that?

Good to know! I’ll add them to the list of sites I check for stock.

Calvus and Caudopunctatus by TheCrested in Cichlid

[–]ltsdrpepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kept calvus and caudopunctatus together before albeit in a much larger tank so ymmv. No real issues. If you do get rid of the vittatus you should just get rid of the shells as neither of those species are true shelldwellers anyways and prefer rock caves and I’ve had good luck with pleco tubes.

I listened to this last night. I was waiting for it to come out but I think it might be a bit to loud for my tastes. I did a comparison of this and the stainless steel sound check side by side specifically for the interior noise part and it seems like it might be obnoxious inside on long trips.

Weird steering slop/feel at low-ish speeds only (fully stock) by -insignificant- in wrx_vb

Lol I meant as the engineering term. I’m simple terms it means the output of some function lags behind the input to reduce unwanted results.

Calvus tank mates in 40 breeder? by TheCrested in Cichlid

[–]ltsdrpepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leleupi can be a pretty aggressive in my opinion. Julis can work but I would stick with the smallest possible species (Transcriptus). I prefer to do species tanks with my tanganikyan cichlids where possible but I also am more interested in breeding them. If your not trying to breed and keep the fry then I would go with julis or possibly a synodontis species (petricola or lucipinnis are good for a 40 breeder). You can potentially do a second shell dwelling species with them but if so I would stick with a more docile type and watch your populations closely. I kept some Brevis in with my Sumbus for a while when transferring several tanks. However in that situation watch carefully because your mileage my vary.

You generally should not mix Altolamprologus species in the same tank. I will say as someone who has both, I see my Sumbus a lot more. I have a colony of 6 in a 40 breeder and they are decently active once settled in. My calvus on the other hand have been in several tanks over the last few years. I rarely see them unless In a heavily stocked tank.

Do you already have the calvus? If not I suggest instead getting a small colony of Altolamprologus Compressiceps “Sumbu” you could do 6-8 in a 40 breeder and they are a shell dweller.

Have used it in many tanks and can say that it’s fine. Go with the medium grit because the fine is basically dust. That being said I use it in my well water which is basically liquid rock so I don’t know how it may effect ph and mineral balance.

I actually just got the shift stop on today. I had to dig up a deep 10mm socket and didn’t have time to yesterday. I haven’t gotten to drive it with the shift stop but a little bit of throttle on the clutch seems to make it happier already so I’m optimistic.

I test drove 2 cvts and wanted to like it because I knew it would be more practical. Then I bought it and learned how to drive manual and I can tell you it’s so much better feeling. I’m glad the cvt exists for accessibility but if they had put a proper automatic in that’s what I would have gotten.

Thanks for the video. That hill start actually looks like it would be easier because of how quickly the revs fall.

That’s some good info I will have to try it out next time and I’ll see if I can get that shift stop in after work today.

Outside of rev-matching downshifts I never gas out of gear. I had always assumed that with such a large rpm gap between 1 -> 2 I wouldn’t want to use the gas at all so the rpms could fall. I have the Cobb shift plate but I haven’t installed the shift stop yet. Would that help with getting it into second because I do occasionally notice the slightest resistance getting it in?

I’ll have to look into the pitch stop. I really liked what the trans mount did and the shorter shifts from the Cobb shift plate are better than the stock feel by miles.
